Class was in the Danger Shop again, and the room looked like a city street under the stark light of the moon. It was lined with identical low-rise tan office buildings, set on lots surrounded by high chain-link fences. Tyler waited outside one such building, arms folded around himself as he waited for the students to assemble.

"First things," he began without preamble. "If you know me at all, you know I don't like to apologize. But I will say last week's class was a mistake. I should've done a straight session on fertilizer bombs, not gotten into ... the rest of it. Anyhow, if you have something to say to me about it, I'll be around after class and my office hours are still Mondays."

"Though it does kind of lead into what we're doing this class. Because this week, for our final, you can bring a building down." He paused, watching the students for any reaction. When it was quiet once more, he went on.

"Right, so this is the deal. Each of these buildings represents the HQ for the most evil scum you can imagine. They eat babies, they pollute, they support Barry Manilow's recording career, whatever. And your job is to take them out. You have two choices: Big boom or sneak attack."

"If you go for a big boom, you get into the lot and detonate a fertilizer bomb or nitroglycerin around the building. It goes up, you run, the evildoers can't recover. Done. You just need to hope your evacuation order went through, 'cause if anyone was in there, they aren't coming out."

"But that's not the only choice. You can also go for sneak attack. If you go that way, you use small bombs like C4 and Molotov cocktails to break into the property, steal a folder of crucial information in the main conference room, and sneak out, blowing up however much you want to on the way. Problem is, a, there's no proof anybody will believe what's in the folder, and b, you could get caught before you do anything. But do this right and there's no chance of collateral damage. Then once the building's down -- or not-down, however you're doing it -- you get to tell me what you did and why."

"You're paired for this, and there's one group of three. I know the idea of a lone wolf is all romantic, but in the real world, you'd probably have to work with other people to get anything done. Or not sleep." Which was Tyler's favored approach. "Anyhow, the bomb-making supplies are in that workshop area. Questions? Ask me or Miss Hammond."

"And you have all been a fantastic class. Thank you."

Talk, make a plan, and follow through.

Ino hummed thoughtfully as she considered the options.

"Makes more sense to go in quiet," Jo said.

"Yep, 'cause in the dead of night there's so going to be a lot of people around," Ino said crossly.

Jo raised an eyebrow. "And you know what tends to result in a whole lot of people being around at night? Massive explosions."

"I'm not talking 'bout outside the building," she said witheringly. "I'm talking 'bout inside."

"Inside or outside won't make any difference to emergency services," Jo replied. "Not to mention the chance's that'll take out the night staff."

"Do it however you want," Ino said with a shrug. "This is utterly stupidly pointless anyway."

Jo nodded. "In that case, you stand watch outside, while I go take care of things inside."

Ino shrugged again. "Have fun."

What? He'd already given her detention for this class, she wasn't going to even pretend to care.

"I intend to," Jo replied cheerfully, heading towards one of the buildings.

A security guard patrolled the halls of the building Jo headed toward, mindlessly humming an AC/DC song under his breath.

He knew something big might go down soon, maybe tonight, and he just hoped he'd get to be part of the action. For now, he paced.

Jo had used lock-picks on the fence, but by the time she got to the door of the building she wanted something with a little more bang.

Which was why, after checking that the coast was clear, she carefully stuck up a small amount of C4 around the lock.

Why have one big boom, when you could have many little booms?

The explosion shook the hall, and the security guard ran back from the other side of the building and peeped cautiously around the corner. "Who's there?" he called, excitedly. Maybe this was what he was waiting for.

Okay, that did not really sound like someone who was upset by explosions in the building. Taking a risk, Jo called out softly "Tyler sent me."

"Mr. Durden?" the guard said, sounding awed. He didn't know anyone who had actually met Tyler Durden. He stepped further around the wall to get a look at Jo.

He stood at attention. "I am on duty and the building is safe for us, ma'am. And, ma'am, he said there would be a special task for me."

"He did, and there is," Jo said, rapidly trying to figure out what exactly what special task she could give him. "You say the building's safe? That mean any people on site are accounted for?"

He'd be happy with anything, really.

"I got everyone out, even that lawyer we thought might work all night. Claimed there was a gas leak," the security guard said, clearly pleased by his own cleverness. "I just finished a sweep and all offices look empty and the one you need access to is unlocked, ma'am."

"Good job," Jo said, smiling. "Mr Durden will be pleased to hear it."

She quickly divided up her remaining explosives, offering a share to the guard. "While I'm getting the file, I need you to start setting these up so we can detonate them once we're clear."

"You need the third door to the left, and I will set them up per the protocol, ma'am!" the guard said, taking the explosives. He wandered away, carefully placing them every ten feet up and down the hall.

He was humming that AC/DC song again.

Jo quickly made her way to the room in question, retrieving the folder she needed, double-checking for any more useful information, and placing what was left of her explosives.

Afterwards, she made her way back to the hall to wait for the guard.

"Is Mission Mayhem a go?" he asked in a loud whisper as he returned from setting everything up.

Jo grinned and nodded. "As soon as we're clear of the blast zone," she said. "So we should probably start running."

He grinned proudly back at her and broke into a dash for the door, running with his ears covered.

Jo followed close on his heels. This final was awesome.
