How to Be the Best at What You Do - Thursday, Period 2

"There's one last building block that we have time to work on this session," Logan said, starting off the class. "That last thing is sheer, plain, dumb willpower. If you're gonna be the best, you're gonna have to be determined. You're gonna be the best, there's no other option. It's gonna happen even if it's for no reason other than you won't give up. If somebody beats you, you come back. If they beat you again, you come back harder. Be persistent. Be a pest. Anything to prove that your will is just that much stronger than anyone else's."

"With that in mind, you've got a couple options today. First off, pair up and have a staring contest. If you do it right, it's basic psychological warfare. Just you and somebody else, no words, just staring at each other, getting into each others' head with nothing but a hard look, seeing who's gonna crack and turn away first. At the same time, you've gotta keep yourself from blinking. Can you control yourself enough to do that for longer than your opponent? We'll see. Of course, you don't have to just stare. Go ahead and try to distract the other person somehow. No violence, though. If you're gonna cheat, cheat smarter than that.

"Also, head's up for next week, our final week together. Don't get too sad about it. The activity's gonna be simple: find some way to use the thing you're best at to knock me off my feet. I'm serious about that. Knock me on my butt somehow and you might earn my respect. Take the week to figure out how you're gonna do that."

Because he's not cooking. Well, as much. But for Liir Ino thought that was a really big sign of something... off. Well, not as much. And he mentioned that he hasn't been talking to people, and then wouldn't tell me why.

Which had been a really stupid thing for him to do, really.

Maybe he'd tell you though? He doesn't like to worry me. Which, really, just made her worry more and that showed on her face.

...he'll talk to me. Or I'll melt his door down.

Michael's jaw was set decisively. He didn't like hearing things like that about his few friends.

Thank you... she wrote, then stared at the paper for a while before adding one more word.

Sorry.

It's okay was the prompt - too prompt - response.

Liar.

It might have been accusing, but Ino just sighed.

He didn't respond to that. There was nothing to say.
