Flight and Flying, Period 5, Thursday 6/19

The students would likely notice something very unusual about the Danger Shop today as they arrived. Most notably that it was empty. There wasn't any kind of ship anywhere in sight. There was nothing. Just Murdock with his arms crossed over his chest, looking rather devious.

"And now for something completely different," he droned. "You," he pointed towards the class at large, "will choose your own ships today. I recommend you pick something you're most comfortable with. Because we're going to crash those babies," he grinned deviously.

"The first rule of piloting, is any landing you can walk away from is a good one. So that's what we're going to do. Your primary goal is to make sure you get out safe. If you can swing it without getting a single scratch, even better. Second to that is minimizing the amount of damage inflicted upon your craft. If you ever wind up crashing in hostile territory, you want your craft to be repairable. Or at the very least, have enough working parts so you can retro engineer something else to escape in."

"How you choose to crash them is completely up to you. You can experience engine failure, extensive damage from an enemy craft, or," he winked at Reno, "you can just fly straight into a mountain. Once done, the Danger Shop will provide each of you with an outcome statistic and survival probability." Of course, the safety protocols were in place, so nobody would actually suffer any injuries, but Murdock thought it might be amusing to let them sweat that a bit. Make the whole scenario just that more believable.

"Alrighty kids!" he slapped his hands together loudly, "Let's get our ships and let's crash like you've never crashed before. Oh, and I should add, you'd better crash sooner rather than later. Take too long, and the program will kick in and throw something random at ya. Or heck," he shrugged, "just wait for it and see what you get. Could be a fun challenge," he grinned.

(ocd-edy! in a sec...)

Reno, of course, chose a helicopter.

It was a thing. A Reno thing.

It was going to almost be a shame to total the poor thing, even if it was fake.

Reno totally came equipped with travel-sized bottles in the inside pockets of his jacket.

He had to fill that space with something, since he wasn't allowed to carry any weapons around.

It wasn't real flying. But it was flying a chopper. And that, my friends, was good enough for Reno.

Reno, who was totally planning on waiting until something random struck him down. It made things more interesting that way.

Reno was going to fly that chopper around until the danger shop threw something good and random at him.

It was a shame he wasn't expecting that giant foot to fall from the sky on top of him like that.

Probability of survival? Zero.

If asked later, Reno would probably tell you that he was not dead, he was pinin' for the fjords.

"Like there's anything else to pick," Reno replied with a smirk and an eyeroll. "But I hear you got a real one all lined up? Sorry I didn't call you back, boss. All shit hit the fan this weekend, was a little tied up."

Reno shrugged a shoulder, idly tapping his finger against his hip as he turned the chopper around and flew down close to the ground. Flying was more fun when there was junk in the way.

"Could'a been worse. Could'a had to kill a guy for messin' with my girl," he replied. It came out entirely too casually.

Same old, same old.

"Monday sounds like a good day to me, zoto. Ain't got nothin' on the go, either, unless I wind up fox-sittin' again."

Except for possible bruises from the same sort of ass-whooping, of course.

"Lookin' forward to it," Reno replied, tempted for a moment to wrap the chopper around a tree he was quickly approaching before thinking better of it and veering to the side at the last possible moment. "Catch you Monday, then."

The choice was easy: X-wing. However, considering that Jaina had once gotten hers blown up with her still inside it, she wasn't exactly thrilled about this one.

Anemone was disappointed that there was no LFO to use, but not surprised. It was probably for the best, since the last (and only) time she'd crashed an LFO, she'd been in a coma for two days afterward. She'd find something else to play with.

Finally, she settled on the F-16 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/F-16_Fighting_Falcon") she'd flown in Master Skywalker's class last summer. She liked this baby.
