Paranoia & First Aid, Period 3, 18 Jun '08

"Some dangers are more obvious than others," Mohinder began, when the students had arrived. "Gun or knife wounds, car accidents, fire. Even death by volcano, which would usually be from the pyroclastic flow rather than the lava. It's easier to protect yourself against something you know is out there."

"The vending machines or kitchen sink are the dangers that catch the unsuspecting," he went on, describing a series of bizarre deaths including fatalities by tortoise, laughter and accidental self-strangulation, with an -mostly- straight face.

"To be prepared for injuries -however they occur- practice needs to be as realistic as possible. In lieu of violence we're going to be looking at simulating bloody wounds," Mohinder pointed at the moddable supplies on the desks, "And then testing your skills."

Chris couldn't believe that people were so dumb.

Okay, he could believe it. But damn.

Gavin really hoped that this lesson didn't frighten him away from vending machines for the rest of his life. There was great candy inside those things.

Gavin went about making some blood and then dabbed it on his arm. Not a major, gushing wound but he'd had enough of those.

And then he bandaged it carefully but the blood kind of smeared the bandage and made him look worse than before.

Try as she might, Adah really couldn't help a snicker or two at the bizarre deaths, nor could she help scribbling them all down for future reference and amusement. She was going to be so disappointed if her further medical education and work did not add more examples to the list.
