Flight and Flying, Thursday 6/12, Period 5
"Insurmountable odds," Murdock spoke seriously as he paced around the Danger Shop. "That's what we'll be covering today. According to some records, depending upon which Earth history you go by, there was a large-scale invasion by an alien race. Their goal was to strip the planet of all resources. After they slaughtered all the inhabitants, of course."
"The only thing available to fight back with was much less superior technologically to the invading race's craft. In this instance, F/A-18 Hornets went up against a mess of alien attack vessels. The Earth fighters had to rely on skill more than their firepower as the alien ships were equipped with high-energy weapons and shields which the Earth weapons could not penetrate."
"However, it was discovered that the alien crafts could be compromised using a computer program. Something called a virus," he shrugged. "Don't know much about them myself, but apparently it did the trick, making the alien craft vulnerable to the fighters' weapons."
"Except for the larger scale invasion craft. Torpedoes had little effect against the thick hull of the destroyers. The only weak spot was the vessel's main weapon, which was only accessible as the craft made ready to fire. One shot," he held up a finger, "was all that was needed to take them out. The trick was surviving long enough for that to happen."
"For today, we're going to re-live that scenario. You'll have to rely on your own skills and those of your squadron mates to take out as many fighters as possible until the larger vessel is destroyed. Good luck!"
(wait for it... OCD tis up!)

The TA
Re: The TA
He was also totally up for being thoroughly amused at any accusations people had regarding the sanity level of the prof. There was something wrong with Murdock? Reno hadn't noticed.

Re: The TA
Re: The TA
He grinned then, "Actually it wasn't really a bird. More like a squirrel via radio broadcast."
Re: The TA
"Rikku? She likes orange, she likes technology, and she likes cute stuff. She's got a lotta love for my chopper, but I already got her a remote-controlled one and there ain't no place to park a real one here on the island for too long. What were you thinkin' of gettin' her?"
Re: The TA
"I got a feeling that she probably knows more about tech stuff than I do. Airship an' all that," he shrugged. "Guess it'll have to be somethin' orange and cute."
"Dude. You have a chopper?" He wasn't jealous about that at all, nope. And he was so, sooo itching to go up for real. "Where do you manage to hide that around here?"
Re: The TA
"I don't. It's parked back in Edge, with all the other company choppers. I got dropped off here by my partner, and he took off with it."
Maybe it went without saying that watching his chopper fly away sucked. A lot.
Re: The TA
They were going to have to work something out. Seriously. Pilots didn't belong on the ground for too long.
Re: The TA
It was more of a slight jutting out of his lower lip brought on by the sudden realization that he didn't have access to his own chopper.
... Which, essentially, was a pout.
Re: The TA
"We're going to have to do something about this," he announced. "Give me some time and I'll see what I can come up with." That phony license would be a big help, for one. As soon as it arrived, that is.
Re: The TA
He was lying. But if he didn't have time, then he'd be back in Edge anyhow, flying his chopper, so if there wasn't time, then at least there'd be a chopper to make up for it.
"It'd be damn nice to be up in the air for real again sometime soon, yo."
Re: The TA
"I hear ya, bud. Simulations can't always cut it." He hadn't been up in weeks. Withdrawl was a very real thing here. "Soon, man. I'll let you know when I got it set up."
