Galactic Vacationing [Wednesday, Period Five]

This afternoon the class would have noticed that the Doctor was nowhere in sight. The more observant would also have noticed that the Danger Shop was set up in an unholy combination of space-age tiki bar and seraglio with Seely leaning against the bar chatting to one of the many scantily-clad, brightly-coloured patrons.

He straightened when he saw the class. "I'm afraid that the Doctor can't be here today," he said. "And I couldn't make sense of his lesson plan, so instead of going to a Welsh gravel quarry, we're going to be doing something a little more exotic."

He grinned broadly as he gestured around the room. "As anyone whose ever watched Galaxy Quest or Space Battles knows, the universe is full of places like this, and people like these, so you're going to practice dealing with the natives. They're very friendly, so it shouldn't be hard."

[Wait for OCD up! Post away!]

The green girl grinned broadly as she came over to Liir. "So what's a boy like you doing in a place like this."

If Liir were the type to be religious, he'd have remarked that Someone Up There was laughing at him. As it was, he was quite sure that Someone In Here would be laughing at him in a moment as this was quite possibly the single most awkward situation that didn't involve being tied to a chair he'd ever been in.

Yes, that included explaining that he wasn't a lesbian.

"I wouldn't have the first idea," was what he said, because surprise usually bred honesty in him.

The girl moved a little closer into Liir's personal space. "Really? But you seem so distinguished and refined."

"...in what world?"

She was insane, obviously. It must run with the pigment.

"This one," the girl replied, laughing. "You're funny."

"In the head. Unfortunately," he continued, looking at her curiously.

At which point he realized that, odd or not, he was being rude.

"Liir, incidentally," and truer words were never spoken. "And you are?"

"What a lovely name, Liir," the girl said, inching just a bit closer before replying with what sounded like a keysmash of consonants.

"...that sounded almost like a name from the Yunamata," he said thoughtfully. "Do you have a shorter version?"

"Well, Fred. What, um... what brings you here? to this place?"
