Galactic Vacationing [Wednesday, Period Five]

This afternoon the class would have noticed that the Doctor was nowhere in sight. The more observant would also have noticed that the Danger Shop was set up in an unholy combination of space-age tiki bar and seraglio with Seely leaning against the bar chatting to one of the many scantily-clad, brightly-coloured patrons.

He straightened when he saw the class. "I'm afraid that the Doctor can't be here today," he said. "And I couldn't make sense of his lesson plan, so instead of going to a Welsh gravel quarry, we're going to be doing something a little more exotic."

He grinned broadly as he gestured around the room. "As anyone whose ever watched Galaxy Quest or Space Battles knows, the universe is full of places like this, and people like these, so you're going to practice dealing with the natives. They're very friendly, so it shouldn't be hard."

Rodney was a big enough sci-fi geek to think hot space babes were the coolest thing ever. He was having trouble deciding who to talk to what with all the colorful flesh around him. Eventually, he went with the old stand-by and made his way (with a little bounce in his step) over to a blondish alien chick.

"Oh, uh, yes," Rodney replied while he was decidedly not making eye contact. "What about you? Come here often?" He cringed as soon as he realized he'd actually said that.

"That's nice," Rodney said with a bit of a sigh. If asked, he couldn't have said if he was responding to her statement or her movement.

"Uh, right," he agreed without knowing what he was agreeing with. "I'm Rodney," he held out his hand as he belatedly introduced himself.
