How to get into college – Monday – Period Three
Marshall handwavily asked the kids to come to the Danger Shop for class today. It was made up to look like the inside of a club for some reason. Everybody could take a seat at the bar while Marshall was lecturing.
“Okay guys, you’re in college, it’s a Friday night and there is one question on everybody’s minds: Where’s the party? There’s always going to be something to do, every weekend, no matter what school you go to. Now before you decide where to go out you need to make sure your priorities are straight. Do you have a big project due next week? Do finals start on Monday? Do you have a wedding to go to tomorrow? If any of those answers are a yes then you might want to stay in that night. But if those answers are a no then, hell yeah, go out!”
“You’ve got a few options when it comes to parties in college - -“
1 . The Bar – “The bars are tempting, yes. It’s dark, there’s booze and you won’t get pressured into dancing if you don’t want to. But if you’re under twenty-one I’d avoid the bars. They’re pretty strict about the ID’s outside of Fandom. If you’re over twenty-one then I gotta say, few things beat a good bar. Even if the bartender is a vampire.”
2. Clubs – “I personally love clubs but I know a lot of people aren’t fans of them. They’re loud, they’re crowded and drinks are overpriced. But there are a lot of ladies wearing skimpy outfits and there’s dancing. Lots of dancing! Dancing is awesome. It’s easier to get into clubs if you’re under twenty-one, especially if you’ve got a good fake ID. Not that I’m encouraging you to get one…oh, who are we kidding, yes I am.”
3. Frat Houses/Sororities – “Frat houses and sororities are good places for theme parties if you’re into them. Toga parties, Casino nights, this one time I went to a frat party where the guys filled their house with sand and had a beach party. The keg usually has good beer in it and there’s always a good chance of seeing two preppy boys getting into a fight. The people here won’t be the best conversationalists and the girls don’t want anything to do with you unless you look like a male model but they are always good for booze.”
4. House Parties – “Just what it sounds like. A person with a house is having a party. These were the parties that I mostly went to until I turned twenty-one. The keg is filled with either Natty Light or Milwaukee’s Beast but after you drink five of them you don’t really care how bad it tastes. It’s really crowded and you run the risk of having to go on a beer run late at night but it always makes for a good time. There’s good people, good music and lots of mari—sandwiches. I like house parties.”
“Okay so I couldn’t really figure out an assignment to go with this lecture without getting into trouble with the principal so um...DANCE PARTY!”
Marshall hit a button on the wall of the Danger Shop and the strobe lights and music started going. Marshall grinned. This school was awesome.
[Wait for OCD is up!]
