Flight & Flying, Period 5, Thursday 6/5

Whistling, Murdock slapped a note on the door of the Danger Shop for class to head down to the Flight Shed, where he waited impatiently. The big day had finally come and Murdock could barely keep still. He was a lot more grinny than usual this afternoon and bouncy. Yes, bouncy.

“Hey y’all!” His hands were firmly stuffed in his pants pockets to keep himself from waving like a demented fool. Flailing even. Because teachers probably didn’t do that sort of thing. “Boy, have I got a surprise for you today!”

“Follow me and come on in!” He bounded through the open door and did the whole viola! wavey thing with his arms. “Spaceships!” Yes class, these are still new and shiny things for your professor, so bear with him for a bit.

“These,” Murdock pointed, still with the bouncy, “are Starfuries. Short range fighters designed for maneuverability in tight quarters. Especially handy if you ever find yourself in a firefight around a spacestation.”

“They handle like you wouldn’t believe,” he said in awe. “They can turn on a dime. Really. They also have some pretty impressive weaponry." He was still ogling over the 'laser cannons'. "These little babies pack one heck of a wallop for their size.”

“Of course, they usually fly in groups. Squadrons, you know.” Murdock was just a bit distracted as he moved about the room. “So...” He stopped, grinning wildly. “I got one for each of us.”

“First we’ll take it slow, getting used to our birds and how to handle them and since we’ll be in space,” more grinning, “we’ll be dealing with different g-forces and weightlessness. At least for those of you that ain't never been in space before." He continued bouncing pacing around the room. "But that last won’t bother us too much since we’ll be strapped in.”

“Once you’re familiar with your craft, we’ll break formation and test that maneuverability by playing a little game of tag.” He smiled at his students, in that almost creepy smile sort of way. “Through an asteroid field. And to make it even more nerve-wracking interesting, we’ll be trying to take out each other.”

“But don’t worry, there’s no live fire here. All weapons are set to practice target mode.” A beat. “I hope,” he muttered.

(soon to be ocd-ed! whee! ***eta*** please note, the flight shed does simulations only, there are no actual ships present and class is not actually in space today. sorry for the confusion.)

We can make a game out of it. How many adjustments can Reno's TA thread see before I have to run to work.
