Paranoia & First Aid, Period 3, 4 Jun '08

"Squirrels are near ever-present on this island." Mohinder wasn't looking around at that, as he stood at the front of the classroom, computers arrayed on the desks in front of him. "And the radio station has a great deal of, however dubious or rum-tinted, information about this island's inhabitants."

"Away from here, closed circuit television monitors an ever greater proportion of our lives, there exists satellite capable of photographing a car parked on a street and surveillance equipment that has grown ever more sensitive. More difficult to detect.." He held up a small electronic - deactivated - bug, and summarised the topic.

"There's a lot of information if you look for it." Mohinder was neutral on whether that was a good idea as he continued. "Take a seat at one of these computers and see what you can find about yourself."

Adam was paying very close attention to the lecture. It may have been creeping him out just a tiny bit.

Adah, while having gotten over a little bit of the bizarreness that was more personal computers than what existed where she was from, had to admit to being a little intrigued by this week's assignment. Pity that she figured not much on her actual work back in her timeline would actually show up; it could be both fascinating and potentially dangerous to see what she might have accomplished in the gap of forty five years.

There was certainly not a squirrel with his face pressed up against the window taking notes. Nope.

Adam found himself wondering what he had gotten up to in these eleven or so years post his time. Not wanting to screw up his own time line or anything, Adam just searched for vague articles on the Power Rangers.

News of the start of the graduate program had Adah a little on edge about her safety spot as a non-participant, so she made sure to stop by and talk to Doctor Suresh after class was let out. "A moment, if you don't mind?" she asked.

"I know there's still a bit before this session ends," Adah explained, "but I was hoping to secure another TA position for the subsequent term, lest I be subjected to physical labor which, due to my disease, is clearly something I'd prefer to avoid. As such, then, I was wondering if you were intending on holding another workshop next session, that I might be able to continue my position?"

Adah Price: spent the majority of her life without a word and then, when it came to anything remotely official, it was like she tried to make up for it with a vengeance.

Adah grinned a bit. "I'll see if I can come up with anything. And, at this point, I have an interest in anything that isn't social service in a damn park, really."

Adah shook her head lightly. "The program I wanted was a full summer one; they have nothing going on until the start of the Fall '64 semester, of which I've been accepted to since I even started here, so...Well, accepted with the caveat that I graduated high school, which I did."

"Runs lin--" Adah started slightly, blinking at Doctor Suresh for a moment, until exactly what he was saying caught up with her, and she nodded. "Yes, that's right. At least, that seems to be how it's been working. Same passage of time in both places, only one forty five years behind."

A sharply crooked smirk slowly spread across Adah's expression. "None that would be so terribly obvious as to upset any sort of balance. If there's anything that I'm not, Doctor, it's an idiot. I can assure you that I am most likely to be one of a very small percentage of females enrolled in a medical program at my school, much less one with a disability, which means I'll have to fight tooth and nail for any of my advances to be taken seriously in the first place, and I'm not terribly fond of too much attention, besides. I'd be a fool to let the advances I've learned of here to slip by my notice of benefit entirely, and just as much a fool to take them for granted and be careless about them."

The grin dropped off Adah's face rather quickly, her good shoulder sagging with her slowly released groan. "You had to remind me, didn't you? Did you know that I had the exact code of DNA that causes hemiplegia emboldened on my flank that day?" If there was anyone who could appreciate that fact, Adah figured it would be the genetics scientist. "And do you know how awkward a two-legged limp is? And ironic, too. Don't they shoot horses when they're lame?"

"I'm fairly certain," Adah commented lightly, "that a horse with only half its working limbs wouldn't be considered any more useful or worthy of life than one with a three quarters working limbs."
