Courtly Dancing and Defence: Week 2

"Hello everyone," Aly said, making her way into the classroom slightly late.  "You probably were expecting someone else, a man for one thing, but Professor Ambrose has been called back to his home for the term so you have me instead.  My name's Aly for those who don't know me."  She glanced around the room with a smile and measuring look for each of the students."

"I apologise there wasn't a class last week for you all, but I'll be more than happy to make up for that in the coming weeks.  Now I normally teach spying and such so the sneaky aspects of this class definitely appeals to me, but for now, I'd like you all to introduce yourselves - name, age, year, why you took the class and then two things different about you."  Aly grinned.  "And then you can feel free to ask me a question."

She flipped a switch and the music of a jig filled the room.  "After that, feel free to pair up and dance. I'd love to see where you all are."

He waited to see if anyone wanted to partner with him and started adjusting his plans for the trip. He'd need to stop by the store for the right clothes...

Cimorene walked over to Liir and dipped a curtsy.

He gave her a bow in response, a faint smile on his face.

"Cimorene, yes?" he said as he offered his hand.

Cimorene nodded. "And you're Liir? Usually, it is proper to wait for an introduction, but I don't think you'll mind."

"I don't."

He quirked.

"What should we dance? I admit, I only know a couple of them that Professor Ambrose taught when he first came here."

"I believe the waltz is always appropriate. What did he teach you?"

"A couple of waltzes. Do you know many of them?"

He wasn't quite sure how to make their dances match up.

"A basic waltz?" Cimorene asked. "One two three one two three?"

"I think that's the first one" he said. "I believe I lead?"

"A-ano," Hinata approached the girl tentatively, "I-I know it's irregular but w-would you mind partnering w-with me?"

Jo shrugged and grinned. "Sure, why not."

Hinata bowed, glad that it had worked out. "H-have you d-danced much before?" Hinata asked, "And I-I am Hinata."

"Jo," she said. "Some, but I don't know if I'd call it courtly dancing."

"A-any sort is g-good experience," Hinata smiled, "i-it's all the same, only the s-steps differ."
