How to Be the Best at What You Do - Thursday, Period 2

When the students had gathered in the Danger Shop, they saw a short, hairy man wearing a flannel shirt, jeans, and a cowboy hat leaning against the wall. He stood perfectly still and never looked up until everyone was settled. His nose did twitch repeatedly, though, as if he was smelling the room. Logan realized that may have been somewhat unsettling, but he was okay with that. He did it in part just so they would be unsettled. When he was finally ready, Logan spoke up and got right to the point.

"Okay, bubs, here's how this class is gonna be. My name's Logan. It's not a last name, so don't call me 'Mister Logan' or 'Professor Logan' or anything like that. If you want to show me respect, do it by getting something out of this workshop. If you really wanna call me something besides Logan, go with 'Wolverine.' Anything else and you're gonna regret it."

"Now, I'm the best there is at what I do and what I do isn't pretty. It usually leaves me with a ripped uniform and blood all over the place. Don't worry," Logan said, taking a slight detour from his point. "It's the other guy's blood and he had it comin'. Anyway, everyone's better than everyone else at something, whether they know it or not. Art, hockey, drinkin', piano... You have something. What you're gonna do for me is figure out what that thing is and then you're gonna let me help make sure you're the best at it. We're gonna focus on the building blocks of your skills, and make sure you have a good foundation for whatever it is you're gonna be doing. If you take it seriously no matter how strange the lessons sound, you're gonna come out of this workshop with some personal improvement. If you don't, you're still going to take something away from this class. That thing is probably gonna be that I don't like you."

"Okay, enough of me talkin'. Break up into two groups, people who can deal with being bruised and people who can't. These groups will be important later on. Introduce yourselves, then figure out what it is you're the best at. Anyone who can't tell me what they're the best at by the end of the period is going to get something assigned to them for the rest of the week. Trust me, you don't want that to happen, so you'd better be introspective, bubs."

"Oh, and if you need anything but don't want to bother me, Z's the TA. She's better than all of you at being my TA. She might have something else. I don't know yet. We'll see."

[OOC: Around for a couple hours now, then SP on Thursday until about 8 PM Eastern. I'll do my best to answer any overnight pings in the morning, but we'll see how that goes.]

"So, like, I'm Ino," she said bouncing a bit, "I'm fourteen, though technically I'm fifteen if you want to count the seven months I spend in the past. I'm a ninja of Konohagakure, and..."

She considered what she was good at.

"...I'm the best at my family's techniques and growing flowers?"

How lame did that sound? Seriously.

He scrunched up his face as he thought. "I'm the best at making really funny faces during really, really serious grown-up meetings," he said. "That's why I got sent here."

"I'm Dean Winchester," Dean said. "I'm good at a lot of things, especially things involved in hunting. I'm damned good at driving and I can fix cars." He paused, obviously thinking for a minute. "But I think what I'm best at is taking care of my little brother -- and by extension my family. It's just been mostly Sammy I've had responsibility for up to now."

Reno shoved his hands in his pockets and shrugged.

"Name's Reno, yo. Been workin' for the government where I'm from for more than a few years, and gained a reputation for bein' the fastest of the Turks." He grinned and shrugged. "Better'n most of 'em at flyin' the chopper, too. Unlike my boss, who has issues with not flyin' into mountains."

He was never going to let Tseng live that one down.

Turtle swallowed a bit hard, hesitantly, before she made her choice. The words she'd given Hinata were ringing in her head: Don't let anyone think you're weak, because they'll walk all over you. That hadn't been exactly what she'd said, but that's what she'd meant. Mist-- err, just Logan-- had said that this was going to determine future classes. Which meant that Turtle? Would have to be tough.

Well. If that's what she had to do...She took in a deep breath, steeling herself.

"My name is Turtle Wexler, I'm sixteen, and I'm good at a lot of things. The stock market, selling things, contracts, and working a courtroom, to be specific, but I'm also quite possibly the best shin kicker you will ever meet. I'll admit that I might not be the best at taking a beating, but, well, that's what I'm here for, right? So I can be the best."

"My name's Wes, I'm fifteen, and I'm best at not being a clone... having money?" It sounds lame to him even as the words come out of his mouth, but honestly, it's pretty much the truth.

Blair looked at her classmates as though they were insane, then replied. "I'm Blair Waldorf and I'm the best at using my mind to deal with problems instead of getting into physical altercations."

Granted she would so smack a bitch with a field hockey stick if the situation called for it, but that was an entirely separate issue.

Andrew looked tired and beat down already, so the second group seemed like a no-brainer at the time. "My name's Andrew, um, Wells. I'm good with language, mostly dead ones. I don't anyone else who can speak as many as I can."

He stopped there. He could never be sure who was going to yell at him over the demon summoning bit.
