FANDOM HIGH STUDENT COUNCIL DEBATES

Good evening from the Fandom High auditorium. I'm CJ Cregg and I'll be moderating the Student Council debates.

Our Format tonight will be as follows:
Students and teachers alike will ask questions of the candidates. [Please submit your questions to the moderator via the appropriate thread] Each candidate
will respond to the question in turn, and I will call on each for their response.

After each candidate has gone, any one may request a further rebuttal to address
a point made by an opponent, the granting of which is at my discretion. The press will have full access and are also encouraged to
contribute questions.

In the case of no opponent, the same format will
apply, although the rebuttals will be unnecessary for obvious reasons.

I ask that anyone who wishes to be a write in candidate remain in the audience, and feel free to question their opponent...making clear the potential as a candidate. All responses, please be concise. This is a venue to discuss qualifications, not to sling mud. Let's have a nice clean debate. Let's go gang.

((ooc: respond in the appropriate comment thread in order to keep this organized. thank you))

Beka inclines her head to Professor Cregg. "Actually, Professor, I have two write-in opponents. Wednesday Addams, I believe, is running on the Bat-shit Crazy slate, and Johnny Crane is also running. I'm not certain whether he's affiliated with the Junior Achievers' slate or not. Would you like me to answer the question?"

"Very well." Beka looks for her opponents in the audience. She finds Wednesday first.

"Wednesday Addams is... I'm sorry, I can't even use that phrase. It's inappropriate." She takes a sip of water and continues. "I met Wednesday Addams in study hall yesterday for the first time when I learned she was running for this office. Three good things about her are: First, while she's running on the BSC campaign, she engaged myself and Angelus in conversations. Therefore, she shows a willingness to work with anyone who will work with her. Second, from her campaign posters, it's clear that she is organized and detail-oriented. Third, from her text and subtext, she is a spirited and witty conversationalist." She inclines her head to Wednesday. "I would be pleased to work with her."

Beka looks, but does not see Johnny Crane, though she's certain he'll arrive and hopes someone will tell him what she's said. "I met Johnny Crane when I was admiring his campaign posters. I liked his use of purple, since so many other men would've thought the color unmanly. So the first thing I'd say about Johnny is that he's confident of who he is and what he wants." She taps a finger to her lip, thinking of which other two things she should say. "Second, from conversing with Johnny, I'd say he's very smart and enjoys learning, which should make him someone the teachers will work with. Third, despite running against me, he was courteous, even charming, when we spoke. I look forward to meeting with him again."

Professor, would it be possible for me to make a brief statement about the debate itself to the audience, and also to thank one of the candidates for their candor?

Beka nods to Cole who has just said that he's not debating. "Cole, thank you. You're correct. My opponents should be up here speaking as well. I hope the students will take the opportunity being provided for them to meet and listen to all of the candidates."

Beka looks at Professor Cregg, shakes her head and just laughs. "Talking. Or fucking hitting on anything that walks. Though how they'd get more exaggerated than they are now?" She laughs again. "I apologize in advance if it ever happens."

"Yes. I will have an open-door policy. I have one now. Though please knock." Her eyes widen. "Because of the wards," she hastens to add. Though this probably isn't much better. Hurriedly, "I'll make a special voicemail box to receive concerns at all hours."

"Each week, or more often if needed, I'll hold an open meeting or keep office hours for students to drop by. I'll take what I learn, put it into a written document, then circulate it to the students for comments. When it's acceptable, I'll take it to the Administration. That way, it won't just be me talking. Since the Administration...

"I do think they'll hear and consider. They have in the past." She shrugs. "They make their own decisions. It's up to us to give them the best information possible to act on."

Beka blinks. This is getting weirder by the second.

"Barry Manilow...runs a damned fine charity operation. Can't sing for... He's all right for an old guy. Kenny G makes me want to slit my wrists almost as much as pink frilly Homecoming dresses."

She pauses, tries desperately to think who this band could be. "I'm not familiar with the other band," she says, hoping this isn't too uncool. "On principle, anyone who thinks they're reggae and aren't should just be sho--shouted at. And ruining Cure songs? Lame."

"Professor Cregg, are you sure this is a good idea?" Beka looks a bit flustered.

Beka realizes CJ must be getting really flustered to have cracked like that and almost called her by name. She flashes CJ a genuine smile, perhaps some might note a little extra warmth.

She nods and says, absolutely deadpan: "I Touch Myself, by the Divynls."
