"Good morning," she said mildly, as she waited for her class to settle, "I am Dr. Juli Mizrahi and welcome to ‘Inside Out’. While in class I expect to be addressed as either Dr. Mizrahi, or Professor Mizrahi." A pause. "Though I will reconsider my stance on that, if you have an alternative but equally respectful way of addressing me."

"I’m sure by now that many of you have noticed that, in Fandom, there’s much that’s difference from your homes.” Hopefully, at least. Juli would have to wonder at the kind of world where everything was always like Fandom. It didn’t fully bear thinking about. “The purpose of this class is to discuss some of the ways that we’re all different--in our background, our outlooks, and our methods of accomplishing things."

"Today’s is merely an introductory class. I’d like you all to answer the following questions: What is your name? Age? What year of schooling are you in? What is the biggest difference you’ve noticed so far between Fandom and your home? And what is your favourite time of the day?" Juli smiled faintly, "Once you’ve answered that, each of you may ask me one question--within reason--and I shall answer honestly."

Name, age, class, biggest difference you’ve noticed so far between Fandom and your home, and your favourite time of the day.

Then, ask Juli a question.

Giselle

This class seemed much better. Even if there was still that whole question about what she was doing in a class at all.

"My name's Giselle," the girl said, crisp and ruffly in a brand new dress that might have been part of a sheet from the cabins at one point in time. Like before she had made it into a dress. "I'm sixteen, and I just got to Fandom. My favourite time of day is the morning because there are so many possibilities to the day. You could meet your true love or a dear friend or anything! And everything is washed clean with dew."

She might have missed the other parts of the questions.

Temari

This class... had potential.

"Temari, seventeen, senior." She paused before adding dryly, "My roommate is made of stone, I think that counts. And sunset."

Another small pause as she formulated a question.

"Is she insane?" Temari asked, nodding toward Giselle.

*FLOPS*

...

That was a... new way of looking at the day.

"Your true love?" Juli asked dryly, "and, I'm sorry, can you answer the rest of the questions, please?"

Juli looked mildly interested at that. "Actually made of stone?" she checked, "not just a metaphor?"

Fascinating.

"Possibly by our standards," Juli said, "undoubtedly not in her world however."

There are no words for how much that expression on Temari's face creeps me out.

*flops*

"Oh, yes, I met my true love one beautiful day. He caught me after I fell out of a tree." Giselle gushed. "I'm so sorry! None of the animals talk here," she said thoughtfully. "And the water doesn't come from the ground. It comes out of the wall."

She thought for a long moment. "What do you sing about?"

Seconded on the creep out factor of that icon!

Unless, of course, Temari has found her true love. *nods*

Giselle blinked at the question then wrinkled her forehead slightly, unsure why her new friend would ask that.

Talking animals she'd heard about before. "And... you just knew right then and there that he was your true love?"

Juli considered Giselle thoughtfully. "I don't really sing," she said after a moment, "though I do play the piano."

Heeee. I'm pretty sure the original picture's got Shikamaru opposite of her.

... and I think he had hearts in his eyes too.

*facepalms* Why do I remember stuff like that?

So she HAD found her true love!

*pats* Because you're insane like the rest of us?

No matter how in love she was the idea of Temari with hearts in her eyes is a scary scary one.

... and I am quite possibly insane. Maaaaybe.

"I'm sure you're very good," Giselle said with complete sincerity. "Would you play sometime? I'd love to hear you."

"I had a dream about him," she told Dr. Mizrahi. "And then I heard him singing through the trees, and my heart just knew he was the one I was born to kiss."

Totally still scary. I am wondering now if she is plotting all of our imminent destruction.

*strikes out 'quite', 'possibly', and 'maaaaybe'* *is just helping* ;)

"I might," Juli told her, bemused at the sincerity, "remind me some other time." And she was, in fact, quite good at it. Years of practice had honed that talent.

"Is that sort of knowledge common in your world?" she asked. "Having dreams about your true love, and knowing that you'll meet?"

Quite possibly. She's that sort. Hmmmm.

Curses. You caught me. Those words were my disguise! Now how am I supposed to act like a normal person?
