Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was lovely thanks to the island's new location, and even though it had been less than a week, there was no sign anywhere on the school lawn that part of the land had sunk and collapsed during graduation.

That didn't stop everyone from setting things up away from where the graduates had been seated, of course.

There were tables and chairs and plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and three signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, one listing rooms and roommates for the new students, and one listing the cabin assignments.

[WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE. OCD IS UP. This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

"It moves the right way here," Dean said, taking the question seriously. "It's just a wee bit later than you think. It's the year 2008 here."

"Two thou ..." Alice's eyes got much bigger.

"Nonsense," she said weakly. "I would be a decrepit old lady were that the case. I lost eight years at the asylum, they said it was, not a hundred and ..."

Of all times for her math to fail her utterly. She attempted to count on fingers.

"People come here to Fandom from all sorts of different times and places," Dean explained. "My best friend is from the future and it's 1998 now where I'm from. It's not you. It's this place."

"Are you saying I'm a hundred and forty-one years old?" she said, feeling a bit dizzy from it. "I think I look rather good, for my second century."

Actually, her math was ten years off. She never was any good at figures.

"You look pretty good, period full stop," Dean told her. "And you can look at it like that or you can look at it like you're the age you're supposed to be just in a different time. The latter's less confusing, believe me."

She blushed, at that. "I'll look better when I've gotten some sun," she said. "I'm waxy. Too long indoors. Not that I tan very much, but I don't usually look quite so vampiric as this. In that case, I'm sixteen, as of Sunday. It was Sunday there, at least, and Friday to-day, I imagine the days of the week have switched around some."

"Happy Birthday then," Dean said. "We'll have to get some belated celebration for you. And trust me, you look nothing like a vampire."
