Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was lovely thanks to the island's new location, and even though it had been less than a week, there was no sign anywhere on the school lawn that part of the land had sunk and collapsed during graduation.

That didn't stop everyone from setting things up away from where the graduates had been seated, of course.

There were tables and chairs and plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and three signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, one listing rooms and roommates for the new students, and one listing the cabin assignments.

Hmmm. Not exactly a positive reaction. "Is there anything you would like to know about the island, or the school?"

"Are these attacks common?"

Inara considered that. "I think there have been three or four major attacks in the past year? Not counting the gremlins, but they're more of a nuisance than anything else, as long as no one has recording devices."

"Why would a recording device factor into it?"

"Because then it can be exhibited to the rest of the student body, which is occasionally very embarrassing," she explained.

Temari made a mental note not to ever be caught on tape here.

Ever.

"Good to know."

"As long as we're on the topic of public embarrassment, you should also hear about the radio squirrels. They see and hear everything, choose how to interpret things, report whatever they feel like, and then the whole report gets re-written on the air by the broadcasters."

"It's on nightly, if you're interested, but don't take it seriously."

Crossing her arms over her chest, Temari just gave her a Look. "So we have humiliation available at any time and are spied on at all times, then."

"When you say it like that, it sounds creepy and torturous, but it's not."

"How would it not sound that way if anyone else said it?"

"They wouldn't put them together?"

Ah. Civilians.

That made sense.

"Can we prevent the--" She hesitated to say it. "--squirrels from reporting on us?"

"Word is that they can possibly be bribed with rum."
