Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The weather was lovely thanks to the island's new location, and even though it had been less than a week, there was no sign anywhere on the school lawn that part of the land had sunk and collapsed during graduation.

That didn't stop everyone from setting things up away from where the graduates had been seated, of course.

There were tables and chairs and plenty of food and drinks, along with nametags, and three signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, one listing rooms and roommates for the new students, and one listing the cabin assignments.

[~~WAIT FOR THE OCD PLEASE.~~ OCD IS UP. This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible.]

Murdock couldn't help but smile at the cute baby. "What's her name?" he asked as he watched her.

"This is Grace," Zoe said. "Grace, can you say hello?" Zoe waved first, and then Grace followed.

"Hi Grace," he waved back. "She's beautiful. I just love kids."

"Me too, although I have to say I'm a bit biased towards this one in particular," she said, laughing. "I'm Zoe Washburn, by the way."

"I'd be biased towards her too, if she were mine," he grinned back.

"Oh, Principal Washburn. You'd be like the boss lady around here." He put down his coffee and stuck his hand out. "HM Murdock. New teacher. Pleased to meet ya."

"Pleased to meet you too," she said, shaking his hand. "I'm glad to see you found your way here in one piece."

"Yah, it wasn't too bad. Sneaking out of the VA was the easy part. Sneaking the plane out of the airport, not so much." He shrugged, "Sure hope that airline don't mind me boworrin' it for a bit. I left it where they could easily find it." Right in the middle of the tarmac.

This sounded like a man who would get along far too well with Mal, and Zoe had to appreciate that kind of personality.

"You're going to be teaching our flying class?" she clarified.

"Yes ma'am. I love flyin'. I live for it. Though I gotta admit I'm a little surprised y'all brought me on. Since I don't currently have a license and all." That last part? Murdock sounded completely serious.

"Well, we put a lot of emphasis on someone's ability to teach as well," Zoe replied. Of course, the license would help.

"Makes sense to me," he replied cheerily. Licenses are overrated anyway. "I hope I can live up to your expectations. I'll certainly try."

"Just take care of your students and teach them something. That's all I ask," Zoe said.

"Don't you worry none, Principal-Boss. I'll take care of them," he replied seriously. "I'll teach 'em all I know about aircraft. And then some."
