Library [04/24]

Bridge makes it to the library on time, once again sans coffee. Because there's no point in drinking the stuff if it's not actually caffeinated.

Bridge can be found at the front desk for most of first period, busily going over his notes for Tactics.

Off to take a final exam! But he'll be back soon.

He's back from Tactics, and is now processing a stack of returns as he mulls over how the final went.

The library's closed except if anyone who works here would like to stop by.

Bridge is wandering around the stacks with the returns cart, putting away the pile of returns he'd processed earlier.

And fifth period? Bridge spends fifth period, and a little while *after* fifth period, wandering around the library and finding random things that absolutely really really need to be tidied up. Not that he's putting off actually locking up the library for the day. Noooo.

...Okay, yes, he totally is.

I am going to miss Libraryness :(

"Can you believe it?" Z asked as she burst through the door. "It's really over!"

Jen looks kind of mopey as she wanders into the library about halfway through first period.

"I'm not gonna get the chance to bother you at work again."

"I could start coming by the pizza place more often," Bridge suggests, maybe looking a little mopey himself at the prospect of no more library.

"Yeah..." Bridge says thoughtfully. "We're actually finished with high school. Well, minus the actual graduation part, but really."

"Does this mean we're adults now?" Z wondered.

"Yeah, but it still means you're going away," Jen says. "It's almost like I'm losing my team all over again."

"I think it might," Bridge admits. "I mean, there'll still be classes and stuff at the Academy, and okay... they'll probably actually be a lot like Tactics was only with more giant robots, but."

"Oh," Bridge says. "When you put it like that, yeah..." he frowns. "Well, I mean, there's still summer, right? Cruger isn't expecting us back til September at the latest."

"Yeah, I guess," Jen concedes reluctantly. "But it's going to break up the routine. And I'd just gotten used to having a routine, too."

Never mind that every mutant they'd ever had to fight and apprehend kind of followed a routine. Those happened all over Silver Hills and at different hours of the day and night, okay?

"You can call!" Bridge says. "Or email. It's not exactly the same, I know, but it's better than nothing, right?"

"I guess," Jen says. "Besides, you guys have big things ahead of you. I'm just . . . I'm really going to miss you."

It's clear from how haltingly she says that how unused she is to those words.

"Classes, patrols, giant robot battles...should be...fun," Z said weakly.

"I may not be an expert on sarcasm but even I can tell that's not exactly real enthusiasm there," Bridge says with a raised eyebrow. "Besides, giant robot battles aren't supposed to be *fun*, anyway."

"I dunno, fighting the giant bear was kind of fun, o Blue Glitter Ranger," Z said with a smirk. Oh, look, is this the subject being changed?

"I'll miss you too," Bridge says, coming out from behind the desk and offering Jen a hug. "Not just yet, though."

"There is nothing wrong with glitter," Bridge says primly.

"There is absolutely nothing wrong with glitter," Z agreed. "Or gold," for that matter, although not all that glitters is gold."

"Exactly. Literally, in that case, since I glittered but was not gold."

Jen, somewhat to her own surprise, is all too ready to accept that hug. "Good," she says fiercely.

"While I was gold," Z mused, "but did not glitter."

"You were very shiny though," Bridge offers.

"That's true, I was very shiny," Z said, preening a little. "Sky was socks." She glanced around warily. "Is he here?"

"No," Bridge says with a little frown. "At least, I haven't seen him, which is kind of weird."

"Oh, good," said Z. "I just didn't want him to hear me call him socks."

Which, okay, totally makes Bridge giggle. "Yeah, his reaction would... not be pleasant, I'm sure."

"Glad we're on the same page," Bridge says. "And speaking of pages... wanna study for Tactics with me?"

"But he should be happy! He's done with school, too. Unless he has some other class I'm not in."

"I was hoping you'd ask," Jen replies. "Last time we'll head out to class together from here, too, huh?"

"Yeah," Bridge says, the little melancholy frown back on his face again.

"I don't think so?" Bridge says, trying to remember.

"Even if he does, he'll be done with school soon. No more school, yay!"

"Yeah, yay," Bridge says, smile fading somewhat. He *likes* school, okay?

Jen shakes her head. "We can worry about that over the summer. Right now we have a final to worry about."

"I don't get that," Z said. "But then, it's not like I've ever been good at school."
