Newspaper Staff Meeting, 4 PM FHT, Journalism Room

Coffee. Pastries. News. Was there a more perfect combination of things ever? Yes. But this would work for an hour after classes.

Peter sat up at the front of the room and worked on the Al Bhed jumble. He really needed to pay more attention to the Al Bhed articles because he was lost.

Rikku leaned over Peter's shoulder. "I could give you a hint," she offered.

"Thanks, but I have the answers if I really need some help," Peter said. "Or I might go ahead and solve the English version and work backwards from there."

"You know what I should have done?" Rikku said, grinning. "I should have submitted something totally different as the translation. Just to see if anybody noticed."

"That would've been mean and I'd hate you if I knew the difference," Peter said. "But you'd completely get it past me. Don't take that as encouragement, okay?"

"I won't," Rikku said solemnly. "I'll stick to making up holidays where I get to punch people."

Pause. "'Making up' being a slang term for how I researched it and brought it to all of you, because it seriously exists where I'm from."

"Oh, of course," Peter said. "And obviously I believe you."

Salute!

Steve was still working on the Al Bhed jumble. It kind of made his brain hurt. He'd been back over the lessons in the paper and he was sure humans weren't supposed to be able to make some of those sounds.

Rikku leaned over his shoulder, too, nosy as ever. "You need a hint?"

Steve rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment and said ruefully, "Yes?"

She grinned. "It's okay! I'm kinda ... surprised anybody's doing it, honestly, I mean, this is a whole other language, you know?"

She pointed at hylot. "In English it seems like you get t-h combos a lot? Like in 'think'? But Al Bhed usually has h-t instead. And --" She pointed to uudns. "U's can go together sometimes, but they don't here. And these are all nouns, and kinda things I was thinking up while trying to think of words. And the answer is a stupid pun, but I think that sort of thing is standard, right?"

"Yes, it's very standard," Steve said wryly. "Thanks for the help. I hope."

The final month of Peter's reign!
