Fandom Invasions, Class #8 (Thursday, period 4)

When the class came into the Danger Shop, they found themselves in the centre of what looked like a well appointed room in a mansion.

"Welcome to Efferton Manor," John greeted them. "You've all been kidnapped. By trolls. The troll women want to use you -- at least those of the male persuasion -- as sex slaves. Having seen -- and smelled -- a male troll up close, I can't say I really blame them for looking elsewhere." He looked around the room, eyeing some of the male students a little more closely than others. "Just to make it absolutely clear, this is a bad thing.

"Your assignment today is to escape. You can use whatever is at your disposal - wiles, sneakiness, force if you think that will work. One thing I will give you for free -- you want to hurt a troll -- especially a male? You want to use iron."

John smiled at them. "Shall we begin?"

He stepped back, calmly.

"It's not a human disease. You get it from Animals and Witches," and the upper case letters there were quite crisp.

"You start remembering things that never happened to you. Fever dreams fill your mind as you sleep until you can hardly get a wink of rest. Then you turn green," he said, "and following that, spotted blue. Eventually, you're sprouting oranges and everyone you touch turns into a fluffy orange rabbit if they don't catch the disease them self."

Perhaps she'd think he was mad.

"It's dreadful."

Vsa looked horrified. "You're going to turn green?"

"I have," he said, "and then I had blue diamonds all over my skin. I was hoping still, since you know how this place is" and he really did sound so very desperate "that it might not be. Then the oranges came out the other day. I've still got one."

He did. It was in his bag. He pulled it out and gave it a sniff before pulling away.

Orange and cumin. He tossed it her way.

"Smell it yourself. It doesn't smell like any kind of normal orange, now, does it?"

Andrew, awoken by the talking, chose that moment to pop his head out of the little pocket on the strap of his bag, right next to Liir's heart.

Liir looked genuinely distressed.

"This used to be my boyfriend," he said forlornly.

Vsa started laughing then reached out to touch his face if he let her. "Oh, honey, that's what you get for sleeping with other males. Don't worry. My sisters and I will take care of that problem for you."

He blinked.

And remained out of reach.

"I seriously doubt it," he said. "As I've slept with girls and boys." He was talking about his half-siblings friends from Kiamo Ko, completely unaware of the implications. "It didn't change matters."

Which reminded him, oddly enough.

"I don't suppose you like chocolate, do you?"

She wrinkled her nose. "Yuhu likes that stuff. It's probably why her feet smell so much."

He peered at her thoughtfully.

"Why is it that you kidnap people, incidentally?"

"Have you seen the male trolls?" Vsa asked irritably. "We need better breeding stock."

"And you honestly think you'll get something better out of me? Reckless feckless, mangy, gawky Liir?"

He snorted.

"I'd be much more suited to being your servant. Cooking, cleaning, that sort of thing. I'd say I have references, but my previous employer is dead."

"Oh! Don't worry, you can do both," Vsa assured him.

He shook his head firmly.

"It's not done to sleep with the servants. After all, how do you think your breeding stock got so uncivilized? You have to maintain society appropriately, after all."

Vsa tilted her head. "Do you think so? Is that how the humans do it?"

He nodded.

It seemed likely to work so while it was utter nonsense, as far as he considered it, he'd go with it.

"Society weeds out the proper from the improper. Someone who can't behave, according to societies laws, will be shunned and pushed aside. They won't find a mate, and so their breeding stock will be left behind. Eventually, you're left with the creme of the crop, those who behave themselves."

After all, it was the oldest rule of Oz.

Vsa nodded thoughtfully. "I'll have to think about this, human." She eyed the boy. "You are rather weedy. If I let you go, promise not to lead anyone else back here?"

"Certainly, ma'am," he said with a smart nod. "It would be improper for me to repay your kindness with betrayal."

Beat.

"You wouldn't happen to have a window nearby, would you?"
