"Change of plans," Nathan said as he passed out that week's handouts. "This week we're covering Estate law. Your estate is your possessions. When you die - which I'm sure many of you felt was coming soon depending on how much you had to drink over Spring Break - this is the branch of law that covers what happens to your things.

"Everyone should have a will," Nathan said, with the confidence of one who came from a family where wills were drawn up as soon as children were old enough to sign their names. "Without one the government gets to decide who gets your things. Not uncommon? The government decides that it's going to keep your things. So you need something that prevents that from happening, even if all you own is your favorite pillow case.

"In your packets is a sample will." Nathan gave them a grin. "Don't worry, it's not legally binding. What I'd like you to do is read through, get the gist of what they're looking for, and then write up a will of your own. If you don't feel like giving out personal information as part of a class assignment, feel free to make up your assets and beneficiaries."

"That would be really cool. If Karal's okay with it," Sam added.

"I'm pretty sure he will be," Dean said. "As long as he doesn't think I'm twisting your arm or anything."

"I can tell him you're not if he thinks you are."

"That's a big part of the ceremony of joining," Dean said. "Asking that you're making the decision of your own free will."

"And you'd be okay with this?" Sam asked.

Dean looked at him blankly. "Why wouldn't I be?"

"I don't know. All sorts of reasons," Sam said.

"Like what?" Dean asked. "Because I can't think of any."

"Like...this is something you set out to do, and maybe you want to be special and don't want me getting in the way," Sam said. "Or maybe you don't want to have to teach me all about this stuff so I can catch up. Or...you know, things like that."

Dean was still looking at Sammy like he was speaking a foreign language. "Dude, I've been teaching you stuff our entire lives. Why would this be any different?"

"Because the subject is different," Sam said. "You've always taught me things instead of Dad teaching them. But this isn't something you're passing down from Dad, this is something that's completely yours."

"And you think I wouldn't want to share with you?" Dean said slowly as if the idea was absurd.

"I think you've never had something that's just yours and that you haven't had to share with me," Sam said. "You don't have to share this."

"I've had you," Dean said.

Sam couldn't fight the way that made him smile.

"I don't count like that."

"You do for me."

"So you wouldn't mind possibly sharing this with me?"

"Course not! Actually I think it would be cool," Dean said. "I mean, this is kinda big -- be even better if it wasn't just me, y'know?"

"I guess that makes sense," Sam admitted, brightening a little. "So, you'll talk to Karal then? Whenever you get a chance, I mean."

"First chance I get," Dean promised.

"Thanks Dean," Sam said. "I...seriously, thank you."

"You're crazy thinking there's anything that I wouldn't share with you," Dean told him.

"I didn't know. You might want something for yourself some day."

Dean shook his head. "Nope."

Sam smirked. "We'll see about that."
