Journalism Class - Tuesday October 4

Spider is sitting at his desk, talking to what is apparently thin air. The two-faced cat is sitting at the corner of the desk, batting at something invisible. After a few minutes, a reddish-purple cloud forms directly where the cat had been playing and begins speaking in a soft voice, apparently making some sort of report. After saying its piece, it dissipates.

"Good morning class." Spider glances up at his students. "Apparently someone's been playing games with my newsfeeds and the security monitors. That was Jeremy, our service tech for my systems. As you may have noticed, he's a nano-cloud and will only be seen when he wants to. He has repaired the interruption in the feeds and will be carefully monitoring the system from this point onward."

Spider's eyes narrowed as he looked over the top of his glasses at the class. "There will be no more nonsense with my video feeds. Offenders will be sent to do clean-up duty in the basement, do I make myself clear?"

Turning away, he gestured at the feeds, which obediently shifted to show various scenes. "Yesterday we discussed Beauty - or you did. Today we're going to talk about heroism. What makes a hero, what do you believe a hero to be... and yes, we'll discuss a different word or concept each day this week with a final discussion on Friday."

A little self-conscious at being the first in class, Angela nonetheless takes a seat.

"I think being a hero means doing something that is right for the most people, no matter what's easiest or best for yourself," she begins. "It doesn't mean, like, not being afraid, but ... sort of working through your fear." She pauses, considers. "I mean, it takes more than that to be a hero, but that's kind of my working definition."

John enter the room and slides into his seat in enough time to hear the question posed by the professor.

"A hero, in my opinion, is one who practices altrusim in his life." John stops, considering. "However, I think there are many subsections, if you will, of heroes including the unlikely hero and the anti hero. Both are heroes but for very different reasons."

Phoebe takes her usual seat and looks around the room. Her eyes are red-rimmed and her hair is pulled back in a ponytail. There are several bruises along her arms and her jaw.

"Being a hero means you do something for someone wih no thought as to the reward."

"I agree with Phoebe," Chihaya chimed in. "I think a hero has no thought for himself but for the service and well-being of others."

Remembering their interrupted phone call, Angela tosses Phoebe a note.

It reads, P. - Is everything okay? - A.

"Being a hero is being stupidly reckless," Jake says, looking up from her scribbles briefly.

No, it's not. I don't suppose you have some free time later?

"There's no such thing as a hero," Logan mutters.

Draco pokes his head into the room.

"Um, I'm sorry to be a bother sir but have you seen a Mime about? We're trying to catch it before he does any real damage."

Chihaya leaned over and whispered, "No luck in finding a way out of that form?" The answer was pretty obivious he supposed but he was curious.

Maybe. Have cleanup and clinic duty (don't ask) and a date tonight.

Find me in study hall? --A

"Nope," Jake shook her head back at the angel-dude. "Still get weird bouncy feeling when I try to change."

[identity profile] positive-angel.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 06:11 pm (UTC)(link)
"Have you tried something like maybe, magical healing?" Chihaya had no other offers than that one. Being mistaken for a girl happened to him all the time. He'd never actually, you know, been one.

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Jake squinted thoughtfully at Chihaya. "Nooo. I went to the doctor guy, but he was clueless. Asked a lot of questions, but ultimately clueless."

[identity profile] positive-angel.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 06:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe it's a magic thing." Chihaya smiled. "Isn't there a bookstore in town that has books on magic or maybe the library has some. Just a thought, really." He made a face. "Unless you have to drink some essence of newt cocktail or soemthing. That might not be so fun."

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Essence of newt?" Jake repeated, her face reflecting Chihaya's. "Ew. Final resort, definitely. Just before entering the library again, perhaps. But actually, I think there's a magic shop in town... Hmmm."

[identity profile] positive-angel.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
"We should go," Chihaya said and stopped to amend his statement since he had just invited himself along without being asked. "You should go. If they can't help you out, maybe they can point you to someone who could!"

[identity profile] courier-gavin.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Jake grinned at the expression on Chihaya's face. "We should go, yeah," she said gently. "You're an angel or something, right? Bound to know more about mystical magical crap than I do."

[identity profile] deadlikegeorge.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
"Anyone can be a hero." George muses despondently. "I guess even I was a hero once or twice."

"I dunno," Chihaya hedged with a grin, "I do know that essense of newt doesn't sound very appetizing." He shrugged. "I'll do what I can to help out."

[identity profile] positive-angel.livejournal.com 2005-10-04 07:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It took Chihaya a few passes with that one to realize it actually made sense.
