"In honor of Monday's holiday," Nathan said as he passed around handouts, "this week we're focusing on Constitutional Law. Of course we've touched on it a lot already, but with regards to how it affects our lives now. Let's take a trip back in time - uh, not literally - to talk about the people who sat down and created this document in the first place. The founding fathers. And so help me if any of you American students don't know which of the presidents honored on Monday was a founding father." Nathan gave the class a look just to make sure that was clear.

"Today we like to hold up the founding fathers as paragons of democracy," Nathan continued. "Flawless individuals who did nothing but say well-crafted statements on liberty, and occasionally allowed their wives to sew flags. But you'll find that they were human, just like u - well, just like most of us." Nathan cleared his throat, looking apologetic for any offense that might have caused.

"So let's get to know them. Intimately." Nathan pointed out the last piece of the packet. "Who Wants to Marry a Founding Father? Or mother, if your tastes run that way. Answer the questions, get your result, tell us all a little something about your new spouse."

Nathan grinned. "Personally I'm curious to see if any of you end up with the guy with one leg who couldn't shut up if you paid him. Good luck!"

"Actually the both of you," Peter said, glancing to see if Nathan was free. "Two birds, one stone, yanno?"

"Oh yeah? What's up?" Sam asked, getting more serious.

"Nothing bad," Peter assured him. "I promised to give you the latest on Brooke."

"Who I haven't met," Nathan said, from where he'd been eavesdropping at his desk.

"And maybe you never will," Peter replied, taunting but good-naturedly.

"Oh, come on, you have to let him meet her, so she can pass inspection," Sam said, grinning.

Peter hopped up to sit on one of the desks. "It's not her passing that I'm worried about."

"What, does she feel the same way about lawyers as you do?" Sam asked. "And I take it you talked to her yesterday?"

"Yeah," Peter said. "She doesn't hate me, neither one of us wants anything too serious, and there was kissing. Now you're both caught up."

"Good, good, and very good," Sam replied. "Maybe I should make sure I meet her too, to make sure she meets the best friend standards."

"We could do it together," Nathan suggested, since it was a big brother's job to make his little brother's life difficult.

Peter? Facepalmed.

"That's a great idea," Sam said, grinning at Peter. "Two birds, one stone."

"I hate you both," Peter said. "For the record."

"No you don't. Hating isn't allowed," Sam said.

"Says who?" Peter demanded.

"Me, for one," Nathan said. He looked Peter over. He kept his various opinions about Peter's love life, what Nathan thought about Peter being with someone so soon after Ronan, and what he thought about Peter being back with girls all to himself. He'd met Peter before. He knew better.

"At least you're not being - " he glanced at Sam to see if he was getting it right " - emo?"

"Definitely not emo," Sam said, nodding to Nathan. "Brooke puts you in a good mood, so that's already a point in her favor."

"Plus she likes the same shows I do," Peter said, mostly to tease Sam. Much as an ANTM addict could tease someone who wasn't.

"Considering what shows you watch, I don't know whether or not I should take that point back," Sam said.

"Oh so funny," Peter replied, making a face at him. He raked a hand through his hair. "I tried the drawing thing. Didn't work. All I could make was scribbles."

Sam frowned softly. "There's got to be an explanation. We'll figure it out."

"Don't obsess about it," Nathan said. "Leave it alone. Hell, stop putting yourself in drawing situations in the first place."

"How exactly does that happen without ever touching pen and paper again?" Peter said. "Not that I'd mind the excuse to avoid classwork, but occasionally I'd like to write notes or sign my name."

"He just means don't go trying to draw again," Sam said, glancing towards Nathan. "And I think maybe he's on to something. If you end up with more pictures, we'll know there's something more than just artistic ability going on."
