Art History, Period 1, Class 4 [2-8]

"I could say a whole lot about ancient Rome, but, as with Greece, I am a kind man and this class is only an hour long. Not even that. So I'll keep it short." Steve went on to talk about Roman sculpture and architecture in very, very brief. "What's important, really, is that, like Alexander spreading Greek culture, Rome conquered everything they could lay hands to, and spread their culture, while adopting Greek culture wholesale elements of conquered people's culture and art. The ancient Roman empire was a real melting pot in many ways. Now for something completely different. I thought something hands-on would be nice, and while researching for this class, I learned that today is the date of an ancient Roman festival, the Lupercalia, meant to avert evil spirits, among other things. So your assignment today is to draw or sculpt a wolf. I've provided drawing materials and modeling clay. If you don't want to draw a wolf you can always attempt to reconstruct the Colosseum out of popsicle sticks. Have fun!"
