The cafeteria is clear of it's jungle motif. Instead there are cactus plants everywhere and the heat has been turned up. You'd swear you were in Mexico. The Chef comes in wearing a sombrero and leather chaps. He looks like a cross between Dorito Bandito and the Twinkee Cowboy.

Duce grins, "He's a wizard too? We'll leave off the vulgar wand comments, since you're already blushing. Isn't he from the same school Draco's from? Now there's a cutie! That blonde hair.. mmmm."

Chuckling quietly, she adds, "We prefer Oz's hair, though. We're never afraid of mussing it." Her fingers twitch as though she's imagining playing with it right now.

Sighing slightly, she adds, "Keep it under your hat, though. We're not sure it.. really means anything. He seems to like us.. but.." her voice trails off uncertainly.

"Yes, I think so - Draco's in Prof. Jareth's class, too. So pale - he takes after Jareth I think; he's a little scary."

"So Oz is the one! I've heard of him, but never met him or seen him around. Very interesting!" Kiki winks, glad to turn the conversation back to focus on Duce's prospects. Kiki has already had at least one indecent thought regarding wands, and she's not sure she could keep her countenance if it were mentioned again.

Duce tilts her head, "Draco's related to Jareth? Huh. Didn't know that."

Duce wriggles slightly, somewhat bashful, "Yeah. It's kind of strange, since we live with him and Wednesday's allergic to anything remotely resembling 'cute', but so far so good. We just.. dunno. Half the time he's fine, and the other half, he's .. locked in on himself and afraid." A muscle in her jaw tightens briefly, "His ex was apparently.." Her breath explodes in a sigh, "not so good at communication."

Biting into a taco fiercely, Duce chews it as though she wishes it were .. something else.

"Ohhhhhhhhhh," Kiki says, nodding. "I can see where he'd get the 'once bitten, twice shy' reaction from, then. Hopefully that won't let him lose out on the chance to take you to Homecoming!"

Duce's face goes decidedly odd at Kiki's turn of phrase, almost as though she were biting back hysterical laughter of epic proportions, "Ye-eah.. you could definitely say 'once bitten, twice shy', all right." She pouts, "He won't bite anyone now. It's so unfair."

Poking pieces of taco.. er.. tecu.. around the plate with a tortilla bit, she shrugs awkwardly, "Don't know if he even wants to go. We asked him if he'd asked anyone, and he mentioned his ex.. but.. that was before .. we don't know." She makes a face, "Stupid boys."

"Not even just a little nibble?" Kiki asks, entirely oblivious Duce's reaction regarding biting.

She then turns bright red. "I can't believe that just came out of my mouth.

"Anyway, not that I have the experience but I guess just...be there, you know? Let him know you will always be his friend and care about him no matter what. Maybe that will be enough for him to look at you in a different way?"

Duce shakes her head sadly, "Nope, not even that." She sighs mournfully, "He's either deathly afraid of biting or completely clueless." She thinks about that, "Maybe both."

Grinning at Kiki's blush, "You're so fun. We don't have to do any work at all, you make yourself blush!"

Her mouth twitches, "Oh, he's definitely looking at me in the right way. He's just.. nice, you know? It's just strange, dating someone without an obvious reptile fetish for once."

Kiki giggles a bit before answering, "Maybe that's all a good thing - he's shy because he likes you. He doesn't want to screw anything up. And it'd be nice if he liked you for you rather than because of some kink for snakes!"

Duce nods emphatically, "It's definitely a nice change. He's such a sweetie. Someday, we'll have to do something nice for that boy."

"Hmmm," Kiki says, resting her chin on her hand. "I'll start thinking. I don't know him too well, though, so I don't know what he'd like. But if you need a front-girl, delivery-girl, distraction-creator, or just a shill, I'll be there. Do you know if he has a ticket yet? What if you sent him one anonymously with... well, a flower is kind of boring - what does he like?"

Duce chews her lip uncertainly, "Problem being, we don't know if he wants to go at all, much less with us. Don't think we'd be comfortable sending him the ticket .. will just wait and see whether he asks." She sighs, piling bits of tecu into abstract art on her plate, "We'll give him til Thursday, if nothing by then.. well.."

Stabbing a piece of tortilla chip with the tines of a fork, she mournfully comments, "Our friend's brother will go with us, all we have to do is call him. We bought the tickets, so we're pretty much stuck going at this point unless we find someone that wants them."

"He's into music, but .. we really don't know what he listens to. He plays guitar." She idly draws designs in the tecu sauce, "Will keep it in mind if we decide to shanghai him, so thanks for the offer. Just.. don't wanna have to."

Fidgeting, she looks somewhat uncomfortable, "Don't know how he'd take it if we went with someone else, though."

"Sounds like he needs a good old-fashioned kick in the seat of his pants," Kiki observes.

"Let's see, he likes music and plays guitar... Have you asked him yet if he knows if there will be a live band at the dance and if he knows anything about them?"

Duce shrugs noncommittally. "It's still new, so we'll reserve the kicking for something more important, like Prom."

Rubbing the bridge of her nose, she sighs, "Well, we'll see him tonight, we can try that one." She smiles, "That's a really good conversational opening, Kiki. Hadn't even thought of that. He does play in the school band."

"Ok, mental note: seat-of-pants-kicking is reserved for Prom," Kiki replies.

"Maybe he hasn't talked about going to the prom because he might be playing guitar at it, and wanted it to be a surprise."

Kiki gets a faint dreamy expression on her face. "That would be sooo romantic."

She shakes herself. "Wow, I'm getting really bad, aren't I?"
