Fandom Invasions Class #5, Thursday period 4
When the class filed into the Danger Shop today, they found themselves standing in ankle deep water. Looking further into the room showed the streets of Fandom, flooded with water much deeper than ankle depth.
"Good morning," John said, from his slightly raised -- and dry -- spot. "Last week, we saw how strange weather often leads to even stranger things. This week we're focusing on natural disasters, which in Fandom seem to be rarely natural, or the worst thing you have to worry about.
"We're an island so a spot of flooding may seem like a perfectly logical -- though sucky -- occurrance. But Fandom doesn't get just a flood." He gestured at the waterlogged streets. "More than just excess water's swept into town.
"For this class, I'd like you to pair up, and go exploring. Take with you only what you would if you woke up one morning and saw this outside your window -- the Danger Shop will create your requests if they are reasonable. See if you can find anything that might be a clue to why there's a flood -- they really shouldn't be too hard to spot." John smiled wolfishly. "Just try to not let any 'clues' wallop you."

Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"You actually fly on a broom?"
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"It's no sword. Why else would I carry it around? I'm not so fond of janitorial work that I'd feel the need for a broom for all occasions."
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"Sentimentality is one thing but it's nothing to make a person carry around something unwieldy at all times."
Though he had only taken the broom because it was hers. And the cloak. He'd only discovered it would fly for him on his way out of Southstairs.
But he didn't like to be reminded.
He shook off the cross look and offered a smile.
"Flying is like nothing else."

He offered a smile and started to say something else when he happened to glance around and catch sight of Andros (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1681758.html?thread=103217246#t103217246). Something flashed before his eyes, then. Something... yellow.
He shook it off and gave Michael another smile, though this one was mostly to quiet his own faint distress.
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
He was looking at Liir, waiting for the next comment, when the flash of distress crossed the other boy's face. He blinked. "You okay?"
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"Here. You--"
And he realized that the words coming out of his mouth weren't the ones he wanted to be coming out of his mouth and he clamped his lips shut. He closed his eyes, sucked on his lower lip as if trying to pull out the poisonous memories that were taking up the very necessary space at the front of his mind, and splashed the water with his foot.
There.
Better.
He gave Michael another smile.
"Just fine," he said after a minute. "Just a moment of madness, quickly handled."
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"Yeah. We all get those sometimes."
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"So... we should be handling sea creatures today," he said, "according to the syllabus. Care to partner up? Though I'll let you know right now that I'll more than likely flee at an attack."
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
Not that he really believed that.
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"Can you fight?" he asked curiously. "We could both flee, after all."
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"How about," he offered, "if it looks like something that looks surmountable that we stay and fight together. If it's bigger than a certain size, we both flee. And to that end--" he pulled out the broom "we might as well test now to see if it's a viable escape option for us both. I don't know if you saw last week, but I was able to keep away from the snow creature rather effectively by lifting too high for it to reach."
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"Sounds fair. You should know I can't swim, so... don't drop me?"
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"Give me credit for the one thing I can do," he said before mounting up. He sat according to Michael's size, placing the lighter/smaller of the two at the front.
[ooc: Liir is 5'9'' at the moment and only just now starting to bulk up at all]
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
Michael, a little nervously, followed his lead and sat on the back of the broom.
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"It won't explode. Or splash you. If anything, it'll probably work best over water. The Witch was allergic to the stuff."
And he kicked off from the ground.
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
He was wondering how someone went through life avoiding water.
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
They floated for a few moments while he explored the difference in control with the extra weight before bringing them back down.
"It seems to work. And we should still have some speed even with the both of us."
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
Someone wanted a motorbike, and intended to get one.
Re: Listen to John's talk, find a partner
"Like I said. There's nothing like flying."
