When the class filed into the Danger Shop today, they found themselves standing in ankle deep water. Looking further into the room showed the streets of Fandom, flooded with water much deeper than ankle depth.

"Good morning," John said, from his slightly raised -- and dry -- spot. "Last week, we saw how strange weather often leads to even stranger things. This week we're focusing on natural disasters, which in Fandom seem to be rarely natural, or the worst thing you have to worry about.

"We're an island so a spot of flooding may seem like a perfectly logical -- though sucky -- occurrance. But Fandom doesn't get just a flood." He gestured at the waterlogged streets. "More than just excess water's swept into town.

"For this class, I'd like you to pair up, and go exploring. Take with you only what you would if you woke up one morning and saw this outside your window -- the Danger Shop will create your requests if they are reasonable. See if you can find anything that might be a clue to why there's a flood -- they really shouldn't be too hard to spot." John smiled wolfishly. "Just try to not let any 'clues' wallop you."

While waiting for a partner, Hoshi peered at the water and hoped it wasn't too cold.

Ino wasn't too concerned about the water, so she grinned at Hoshi. "Want a partner?"

"Sure!" said Hoshi. If there was anything really weird out there, it would be a good idea to explore with someone as fearless as Ino.

"Do you think this actually happened at one point?" Ino asked, looking at the water. "What do you think caused it?" Pause. "How have you been anyway?"

"It's an island. I wouldn't be surprised if there's flooding from time to time because of storms," said Hoshi, selecting the most logical explanation.

"I've been okay, mainly just hiding in my room lately because I did something silly," she said, looking at the water. "Radio says that you've been busy lately."

"He implied monsters or something though," she said, nodding at the teacher, "which, I guess around here could be more common than storms."

Ino wrinkled her nose. "Radio's got a big mouth." Nevermind that that didn't really make sense. "I've been... yeah."

"I guess, being Fandom, that we should expect some sort of water monster," said Hoshi, looking worriedly at the water. "Either the water itself is some kind of sentient creature or we need to keep an eye out for tentacles."

There was only one part of what she heard that stuck with Hoshi. "So, you and Michael, huh?" she asked. Not that she was interested or anything, because Hoshi only had eyes for Jonathon Archer.

"Sentient water!" Ino grinned, "That'd be fun to try and fight!"

"What about me and Michael?" Ino asked warily, "We're friends."

"How do you fight water anyway? With a giant hair dryer?" asked Hoshi.

She noted the wariness. "Just friends, then?" she asked.

"Do you think the room would give us a hair dryer that large?" Ino mused, "Or maybe add dirt to bog it down?"

That got a shrug. "I've got no idea," she admitted, "technically, I'm not with anyone at the moment because I'm trying to make up my mind between Kabuto or Michael. But I think Kabuto's gotten eaten by research again or is avoiding me or something, so Michael's been around more often."

"Well, we would only have what we wake up with that morning, so the hair dryer's a yes, the dirt's a no, unless you have lots of plants in your room," mused Hoshi. "I think I might start keeping a pair of rubber boots under my bed in case of emergencies from now on."

Hoshi wasn't sure why she wanted to know about Ino and Michael, except that she'd been feeling really weird lately about everything. "You'd probably want to be with someone who was actually around, I guess," she said.

"Plants?" She looked amused. "I've got loads of plants in my room. I bet I can get dirt for this. Rubber boots sound like a good idea, but I'm just going to stick with chakra." And totally cheat.

"I don't know," she said, frowning slightly, "that's kinda the problem. They've both got their pluses." And she slept in one of Kabuto's shirts. That had to mean something, right?

"Awesome!" said Hoshi. "I don't know if there's anything else I'd have in my room that would be helpful, except the food replicator and that doesn't even work for me yet."

She tilted her head to one side. "You'll figure it out. I don't really know Kabuto, but I like Michael. He's been really friendly."

"So we'll ask for our hair dryers and a bunch of dirt?" She laughed. "This is so weird."

"Michael's friendly, a good guy for sure," Ino agreed, "Kabuto though, he's not, so I'm not surprised you don't know him. I," she looked uncomfortable, "I'm pretty sure I was his only friend before I completely messed it all up."

"Ready to go exploring, then?" asked Hoshi.

She looked sympathetically at Ino. "I'm sure you'll be able to work things out," she said.

"I hope so," Ino said moodily. Then she shook her head, deliberately switching moods.

"Yes! Let's go and see if the water's aliiiiiive," Ino might have been hoping for that to happen. "Shall we?"
