Tactics 201, Thursday Period Two, 31/01

"Hey, kids."

Lieutenant Kerrigan was doing her utmost best not to run her hand repeatedly through her hair, standing in the middle of a simulated canyon in her Ghost outfit. "We were going to do a physical exercise today, but due to circumstances beyond my control, the planning has been altered slightly. We'll be running another simulated exercise today.

"Having dealt with defensive fortification last week, we'll be working on our offense this time. You're to team up in groups of two-- one of you will be driving a Vulture cycle, which aren't hard to master, but I'd advise anyone with motorbike experience to choose this option to make it easier on your classmates, while the other uses four NPC Marines around the canyon walls to try to take the Vulture out. Vulture drivers, your job's to get to the flashing signal at the end of the canyon."

When in doubt, go with class plans a colleague came up with. "Good hunting."

After class, she's prepping up a simulated Vulture for her own run before the next teacher might want to claim the Danger Shop.

Maybe she missed driving them. A little.

It was purely coincidence that had Bond wandering down to the Danger Shop just then. Really.

"Morning," he said, nodding to Kerrigan.

Kerrigan glanced away from the bike. "Hey, Bond," she nodded.

Bond looked over the bike, noting the little things like the jet intakes and the lack of wheels. "This one of those Vultures you were telling me about?"

"Yeah," Kerrigan said, patting the side of the bike with something akin to affection.

"Looks fast," Bond noted, the very slightest hint of envy that they didn't have anything quite like that where he came from in his tone. "Hard to handle too."

"They are." She grinned at the vehicle one more time before getting up, turning her head to look at Bond. "The version I used in class was dumbed down for the kids, but this one's the real deal."

Bond whistled. "So we're talking very fast indeed."

"230 miles per hour," Kerrigan replied, with a grin, "And way more maneuverable than you'd think, looking at it."

And now Bond was wondering if there was any possible way to convince M to acquire a few of these. Purely for professional purposes. Really.

"I can see why you'd like driving it," he said with a grin. "Fast and maneuverable. Not to mention the lines."

"Yeah," she said, and there may have been some glee sneaking into her tone. It'd been far too long since she drove one of these. "And the grenade launchers, of course," Kerrigan added, off-handedly.

Now, Bond just could let that one slip by him. "Grenade launchers you say?"

"Anti-personnel," she replied, sliding her hand over a panel so one of the launchers revealed itself. "They're talking about replacing them with laser cannons, but grenades just have a certain I don't know what."

"Excuse me, Lieutenant, but I have a question," Triela stood sort of at attention as she addressed Kerrigan.

"Go ahead," Kerrigan replied, pulling herself up to her full height.

Triela's grin grew positively manic. "Where can I get one of these," she hefted the rifle that came with Ghost armor, "for real?"

With a smirk that laid somewhere between amused and utterly sympathetic, Kerrigan dusted off the hands on her own suit. "They're military issue."

"So where can I get one?" she repeated excitedly.

"Terran Confederate military," Kerrigan said, with a disdainful snort. "But I wouldn't go that far. You could try the arms place in town, but I wouldn't, if I were you." She strolled past the bike. "The owner's kind of a jackass."

"But... I need this rifle, Lieutenant."

"Trust me," she replied, glancing off into the simulated landscape, "You don't want the hassle that comes with it." A pause. "Which doesn't mean it's not an awesome rifle."

"It's beautiful," Triela agreed. "Do you... have one I could... borrow?"

Kerrigan's eyes narrowed almost imperceptibly as she glanced over her shoulder. "I don't let my guns out of my sight."

"Oh." Triela didn't pout. She just looked... disappointed.

"Maybe for target practice one day," Kerrigan said, returning her attention to the cycle.
