Choosing Your Own Government, Monday, Period 5--Class #4

Perched on the desk and entirely too happy as the class entered, Vala kept grinning as she spoke. If anyone asked about it, she'd smile but tell you it was really none of your business.

"Today we'll be dealing with a subject that is near and dear to my heart--money. You can't run anything, including a salvage company, without money, or some concept of trade, and trust me, you'll always have to give the government a cut, since they can't earn money on their own. The percentage goes up and down with the whims of the government, and pays for programs of which you may or may not approve."

"So, what would you do to avoid paying your taxes? If you're in charge of the government, how do you go about collecting them? What kind of enforcement do you have if someone doesn't pay? Prison? Beheading? Do you have a favorite not paying your taxes story? I know you people have a bit of a history with this kind of thing, so don't be afraid to think outside the box."

[ooc: The last link might not have a search, so just search under "taxes". People are nuts.]

Huh. Anemone looked at the handouts and grinned. Well, now she knew who was paid for all the R&D involved in the Ageha Project, and it was tickling her sense of irony.

Best part? This meant the civilians back home (who mostly hated her, not that she cared.) were the ones paying her salary. Taxes were the best thing EVER when you were on the receiving end of the equation.
