"All right," said Richie once the class had arrived, "quick show of hands, who either went, or witnessed someone who went, crazy this weekend?" His own hand went up, and while the look on his face was trying to be a smile, it was more like a grimmace of pain. Painful pain.

"So this week, we're going to address the topic of 'too soon'. For example, if I spend the weekend thinking I'm a high school student with mild mental problems, or a speech impediment, or something, how soon can we laugh at it?" Richie sighed. He was trying REALLY hard to laugh at it. Really really hard.

"There are some who feel that painful experiences, or traumatizing ones, shouldn't be fodder for bad (or good) jokes. I disagree. Nothing makes you feel better about something that sucks than laughing at it. Yes, I may have used the phrase "Don't hate on a player, yo," and meant it seriously-- but try and tell me it doesn't make you giggle."

"So, for class today: What's your opinion on making things that suck into things that snark? Feel free to provide examples."

How soon is too soon? And does rum influence this timeline?

"I'm of the opinion that there's no such thing as 'too soon,'" Valentine said with a shrug of his shoulders. "You tell yourself, 'onwards and upwards,' and go from there. Why not enjoy yourself a little, honestly?"

It was entirely possible that it was simple enough for him to be so easygoing because he had spent his weekend merrily drinking Guinness.

"If you can't laugh at yourself and what happens to you, you're taking life far too seriously. But sir, I have to ask, what does 'don't hate on a player, yo' mean?"

Richie shrugged. "I'm not entirely sure. At the time, it seemed like the perfect response to any criticism."

"Every soon," Jeff said, with a miserable expression.

He did not want to think about the weekend.

He also never wanted to talk to Karal again.

"If it's something that happened to a younger or older sibling, it's never too soon," Carmela says. "Timelines for other kinds of people, including oneself, vary."

"I don't think it's so much of a matter of what the thing is," Turtle offered thoughtfully, "but more of a matter of 'what can this person do to me if they do think it's too soon?' If you can answer that question, then you have your answer as to whether or not you should bother."

"I agree that there is no too soon." Cimorene chimed in. "You laugh it off or you curl up in a small ball and go crazy."

He's here, he's not busy, and he's removed the word 'yo' from his vocabulary.

It truly, truly does. Turtle is there, for all your TA needs, although she's looking significantly more somber about it. She's wasting time. American market dropped again but the Asian one increased. She could be learning Chinese right now, dang it.
