Library [18/01]

Karal was smiling as he arrived at the library, Altra trotting at his heels.

He unlocked the doors, made sure the librarian's office was tidy, and did a quick round to make sure everything was in order before settling in at the counter with a cup of tea and a purring Firecat.

He just so happened to be in there today.

As he was every day, really.

Trying to figure out all the organization systems at play here.

Karal knocked tentatively on the door. "Excuse me, sir?"

Looking up from a terribly antiquated computer that refused to work for him, he cocked his head to the side. "Is there a problem, Karal?"

"No, everything is fine," he said quickly. "I'm sorry to disturb you, but I wanted to ask, well, for a favour, if I may."

"Ah." He smiled slightly, pushing away from his desk. "May I ask what the favour is first?"

"Of course!" Karal spent a moment lining it all up - the new librarian made him nervous - before explaining. "Some friends of mine and I are going to be running a language club this semester, and I was wondering if you'd mind if we held our meetings here in the library? It wouldn't interfere with other students using the library, or with my duties."

His lips quirked up into something like a smirk, without any sort of condescension or malice.

"I would not mind that at all."

"Truly?" Karal broke into a wide smile. "Thank you, that's very kind of you. I promise there won't be any trouble." He glanced at the floor then back up. "Umm, there was another favour I wanted to ask."

"Yes, Karal?" He asked, more than slightly amused by the nervousness.

"Would you be our faculty advisor?" he asked. "We're supposed to have one, someone who'll help us and, I think, be responsible for us, but you wouldn't have to supervise very much, or really advise us, unless you wished to."

"I would be pleased to."

As long as it didn't end in getting punched. Again.

Karal didn't bounce, because it would be really undignified, but he did grin. "Thank you. I promise, it won't be any trouble."

He shook his head, smiling back though with less bounce.

It was as happy as he got, really.

"I do not doubt that."

He nodded, very excited because it meant the club could go ahead, but trying not to let it show. "Would you like a cup of tea?" he offered. "And there's cupcakes as well, if you'd like one."

He looked slightly... interested in the cupcake. "If it's no trouble..."

"Not in the least!" Karal beamed and hurried out of the office, happy to have something he could do for him. Years of looking after Ulrich had left certain habits ingrained.

He returned a bit later, carrying a mug of tea and a chocolate cupcake - he'd even found a plate from somewhere for it - and set them on the desk. "If you need anything else, just call me."

Chocolate.

There might have been a small pleased noise in his head that he refused to allow out.

"Thank you, Karal. I will remember that."

Karal nodded, looking pleased, and slipped out, heading back to the counter.
