"I am Dr. Juli Mizrahi," she said once everyone had settled down, "and welcome to Ye Shall Be As Gods? For however long I am your teacher I expect to be referred to as Dr. Mizrahi, or Professor Mizrahi. All I ask is that while you are in my classroom that you treat every opinion with respect no matter how different from yours they may be. In this class there are no right or wrong answers." She paced the front of the room, steps slow and measured.

"I," Juli began, "am not here to judge you. That is not what I am here for, nor would I particularly care to do so. What you do, what you plan, is not my job to criticize. I know none of you, or your circumstances well enough to judge."

"Today, I merely want each of you to introduce yourselves, tell me what you hope to get out of this class and answer, to the best of your ability, this question: What is it that drives you to push yourself past your own limits?" She folded her hands in front of her. "Again, there are no right or wrong answers."

Juli smiled faintly, "If you’ve any questions about the course, either see me after class or stop by my office at any point tomorrow."

After the class had begun, Sky mused for a while on the question of what he wanted out of the class. He knew, of course, what his name was and what drove himself to push past his limits, but... Finally, he responded.

"Well, professor, my name is Sky Tate. As to what I want out of this class..." He hesitated, hating to reveal this about himself, even though he knew good and well he wasn't the only one at Fandom with powers. "I'm a mutant myself. I was born with a special power, though I don't know how or why. I wanted to further explore this aspect of myself, including the ways other people react to and relate to someone like me. I thought this class would also be helpful in my work as an intergalatic police cadet, as I deal with aliens and artificial life on a near-daily basis. I hope to learn how to empathize with them better." He then couldn't help but smirk a little as he went on, "I drive myself to push past my own limits because I want to advance in life. I want to be the best police officer I possibly can be."

I've been excited for this one. Sky's gonna love it, as you can see from his lengthy response above. ;)

"The need to succeed is a powerful one," Juli nodded, "and certainly not to be underestimated. But what will advancing, being the best police officer you can be achieve? What do you hope to accomplish be being the best?"

"We will certainly be covering genetic mutations along those lines," she told Sky, "hopefully it will give you at least a more solid comprehension of what some people have gone through because of how they were born, or created. Have you ever faced discrimination because of your power?"

Z will be absent due to running away from home. D: Please accept my OOC apologies and IC acceptance of any consequences Dr. Mizrahi sees fit to dole out.

Not a problem! And Juli'll be displeased, but Z will probably get off with having to make up the lesson. :D

Sky warmed up to the subject of discussing his motivations to do better in S.P.D., as it was one of his favorites. "Well, ma'am, I want to be the best because I want to help people," he responded. "I joined S.P.D.- Space Patrol Delta, the force I'm with- in the first place to follow in my father's footsteps as well. He was- still is- my hero. He was the top officer in his squad at S.P.D., but he was..." Sky swallowed hard. "...murdered in the line of duty. I want to be the best so I can honor his legacy and make the galaxy a better and more understanding place- not just for humans, but for all life forms."

He nodded to the second question. "Yes, ma'am," he said. "Before I joined the S.P.D. Academy, and even somewhat afterwards, I was seen as... well, to put it bluntly, a bit of a freak of nature because of my powers. When I attended normal school, I was bullied a lot, but it largely stopped after joining the Academy, because tolerance and respect for others are the first things new cadets have emphasized to them."

"I am sorry about your father," Juli told him quietly, "I am sure he'd be proud of your dreams. They are admirable." She studied him for a long moment, "Is honouring your father always enough - no matter what difficulties you encounter? Heroes are far away from the day to day grind of reality."

"It sounds like a good Academy." She nodded, "An open-minded police force is far more effective at keeping the peace." Another long look. "Have you thought about the how of going about and promoting greater understanding? People can be quite resistant to change."

Aly appeared around the door of the classroom in time to see the last few minutes. She waited patiently, leaning against the doorframe for her 'teaching buddy' to be free.

Juli smiled when she noticed Aly there. "Come to check up on me?" She asked, carefully making a note and tucking it into a folder.
