It is exam day. Remember, exams constitute 30% of your final grade. Missing one will knock you down at least a letter grade. I hope your reviewed the first 25 questions of your study guide.

Take the exam

Once you have completed your exam, you are excused for the day, although the professor will be available for any questions you may have.

ASSIGNMENT FOR THURSDAY: Locate a person who is not a member of this class. Have them answer the following question.

Rate these crimes, from the man who deserves the greatest punishment, to the least:

• A rich man who kills another rich man for a large sum of money to provide more for his family (greed)
  
• A poor man who kills a rich man for a small sum of money to provide more for his family (perceived necessity)
  
• A man who kills another man because that man hurt a member of his family (retribution)
  
• A man who kills another man because he catches that man in bed with his wife (rage)
  
• A man who kills another man because they are from different sociological groups (prejudice)
  
• A man who kills another man for the enjoyment of killing (thrill)

Assume that all the men intended to kill their victims, understood their crimes, and there are no other mitigating factors. If the person you question believes they should all receive the same punishment (life in jail, execution, etc.) please ask them to rank them anyway if they would.

Report the results to the class on Thursday, and if you write additionally on your reactions to their answer you will receive extra credit.

Cameron takes a seat and right away starts on his exam. He curses a bit at the last question and ends up guessing. He triple checks his answers before handing in his exam.

"Thank you, Cameron. You okay? You look a bit frustrated."

Cameron looks surprised that Grissom noticed and shrugs a bit helplessly. "Yes, sir. I just think I stuffed up the last question."

"Cameron, you are an excellent student. We all make mistakes from time to time, and the extra credit question can still see to it that you receive an A. Don't be so hard on yourself."

He smiles slightly and nods gratefully. "Thank you, sir. I er... I really enjoy this class."

Grissom smirks good-naturedly. "Kissing my ass won't change your answer on the exam. But feel free to keep on trying. Although don't bother bringing me any apples, I prefer foods that have been fried or baked."

Cameron looks horrified for a moment that Grissom would think he was trying to get his score changed, but relaxes slightly as he he doesn't seem angry. "I don't expect it to, sir. But I'll keep it in mind."

"I should clarify...it's okay if the apples are fried or baked into something. A pie, or a fritter perhaps..."

Grissom laughs and smiles at Cameron.

"And don't call me sir. Unless you bring me snacks, then you can call me whatever you want. See you next class."

"Understood, s- Grissom." Cameron grins, relieved, and leaves the class.

Maia comes in, takes her test, smirks at the extra credit response and leaves.

Grissom looks over Maia's exam paper, and starts to laugh out loud.

"Oh dear! I guess I can see how someone would get "factor" confused with..."

He blushes and tries to hide his face with a binder, wondering if he should still give her some credit for...

Oh dear.

John takes his test and stops by Grissom's desk before leaving.

"Really enjoy this class, Dr. Grissom," he says and gives his test to Grissom.

"And I enjoy having you in class, John. Although you are the second student to say that today, is there something going on I don't know about?" Grissom smiles, a little perplexed by how eager his students seem to be. "If so, this has to be the weirdest high school dare ever."

Angela comes in and fills out her exam carefully and completely, though she has no idea on the extra-credit question.
