Squall waited until it was time for class to start, and then stood up at the front and addressed the (mostly? completely?) empty room. "Good morning, class. Today we're going to be learning about monsters from my world. Pay attention; all this information will be on your final next week."

With that, he launched into a long and involved PowerPoint presentation, complete with all the worst bits of clip art and animations that people can do in PowerPoint without actually causing people's eyes to bleed.

After her display of theatrics (see the next thread), Rikku signed the clipboard.

At one point, the clipboard disappeared with a slight glimmer and the brief, mostly inaudible sound of air collapsing into the space where it had been. Moments later, it returned, just as quietly, with Ronan's name.

Oh, come on. She was totally ninja enough to use a simple Henge no Jutsu - illusion - and sneak in and over to the desk. At one point, the clipboard disappeared off the desk, snagged by quick hands, only to reappear a moment later with her name on it.

Yamanaka Ino

Carmela Rodriguez. Or rather, the wizardly construct designed to look and act- to a certain degree- like Carmela Rodriguez.

Johnny Blaze missed last week's lesson about skipping class, and so actually showed up for it. Poor guy.

An orange square just big enough for a clipboard and an arm to fit through opened up in reality just above the clipboard. An arm slipped through, grabbed the clipboard, and vanished back through the door. A moment later, the clipboard was returned in the same fashion, and the door closed. The name Jenny Sparks was now added to those on the clipboard.

Are you in class? Did you send a clone, android replica, remote-controlled clipboard-signing helicopter, etc.?

Go ahead and react to the long, boring lecture with info and pictures of scary monsters.

Having skipped class last week Cassandra didn't know that she was supposed to skip this week. She looked around class wondering what was going on.

Squall raised his eyebrows at Cassandra, but didn't say anything. He didn't think she was an android, but he couldn't be sure.

No, he had NO clue whether she was in class last week or not.

She lifts her hand and offers a little wave. Hi teacher!

Five minutes before class was supposed to end, Rikku wrenched the door open and staggered through.

There were mascara trails running down her face - a nice touch, she felt, as she usually didn't bother wearing any - and her clothes were disheveled and torn. There was what could pass for a convincing bruise on her right arm, and a blood smear on her left leg, disappearing into her boot. She dragged that foot behind her with a decided limp.

"I'm h-here!" she gasped. "I'm f-f-fine, I s-swear, I ... I couldn't miss ... class ..."

She swooned gracefully into the closest seat. "Please, g-go on, I didn't ... m-mean to interrupt."

Cassandra looked alarmed as she spun to see Rikku burst in. She started to get up, then stopped. One eyebrow rose questioningly, "Um... what happened to you?" Because it didn't look like she'd actually been injured.

Rikku sighed, resting her head on her desk. "N-nothing," she said weakly. "I'm f-fine. Really. I don't w-want to ... disturb class."

She let out a very shakey sort of ~~extremely fake~~ sob.

"Why are you... crying?" Or pretending to cry. Whatever.

Rikku peeked up just long enough to give Cassandra a sharp look. "Because I'm injured," she said, in a tone of voice implying that this was the most obvious thing in the world. "And all shaken up or whatever."

"..." Cassandra said. Then, "I don't understand." Clearly Rikku was not injured. Why this insistence that she was?

Rikku eyerolled. "I can't explain now," she said glancing in the direction of their teacher. "I'm all traumatized or whatever and besides, we're disrupting class. I'll tell you about it later, when I'm ... feeling better. Honest."

"..." Cassandra said again. "Um... okay."

This "regular life" stuff was so weird.

Rikku rested her head on her desk again, seriously hoping Cassandra didn't think she was badly hurt. She'd explain everything later. Passing a note right now would be way, way too dangerous.

But if Cassandra happened to glance over when Rikku was sure that Squall wasn't looking, she might risk a wink.

Which only served to make things more confusing. But Rikku had promised an explanation, and she didn't look seriously hurt, so for now Cassandra would wait.

Squall stopped lecturing for a moment and peered at her through his bangs.

"Explain yourself," he demanded.

"There was ..." Rikku flailed a little. "Explosion, I ... I don't know what set it off. I think I ... blacked out? I was ... I mean, I had been walking to class, you know, when it happened, and if I really was un...unconscious ..."

There was a dramatic sigh, here. "Then I ... I'm probably late? But I had to come. I couldn't just ... miss class."

She rested her head on her desk again. "I'm sorry, please continue with class. Please."

Squall gave her an enigmatic smirk. It was definitely an inventive excuse, he had to admit. And an amusing performance.

Which wasn't a good enough reason not to toy with her.

"You should have gone to the clinic," he pointed out, with a glare. "But I admire your dedication to my class."

"I know," she said weakly. "But I thought I could go after class. You said there was going to be important material for the final this week. And I'm not hurt that badly, just ... banged up a little."

That's when inspiration struck.

"Besides, I have potions," she said, reaching into her leg pouch and fishing around. "Give me about five minutes, and I'll be right as rain."

"Your potions take five minutes to work?" Squall asked, in mock horror. "It only takes seconds to lose a battle."

The Carmela-copy is sitting at her desk, silently, not actually taking any notes.

Unaware that he was supposed to be elsewhere, Johnny showed up for class. One he saw what it was, he started to slowly slide closer and closer to the door.

Squall finished talking, walked over to the door, opened it, and looked out into the hallway.

Anyone not out there gets detention, unless you have a really good excuse.

Ronan was leaning against the wall, reading a book.

Squall grimaced at Ronan and double-checked the clipboard. "Fine. GET an A for the day. See if I care."

Ronan grinned. "Thanks. Anything else you need us to do?"

Ino was sitting on the floor, going through the notes she'd taken.

Carmela's sitting against the wall, playing a game of Tetris on her cell phone.

Jenny was leaning against the wall, smoking a cigarette and ashing into a teacup. An empty teacup, as otherwise would be a sin against tea.

Talk to Squall after after class.

Does someone want to start a betting pool on whether this class will actually work the way it's supposed to?

Ahh, but you're forgetting that people rarely participate in Squall's class.
