Language classes -- Monday, Oct. 3

Hello.

There will be a quiz in all classes today, consisting of 10 vocabulary and usage questions. You will also be asked to translate a brief passage.

I expect all students who have attended class regularly to do very well.

In addition, I am still updating my class rosters. Students who do not show up to at least one class before Friday will be dropped.

I am in my office this afternoon, should you have questions or concerns.

Rory stumbles into class, looking like hell.

She still, however, does quite well on the quiz.

Isaac yawns as he comes in. The weekend with his mother was a real bitch...

Sam slides into her seat and promptly pulls two #2 pencils and a large eraser from her messenger bag. She bends down over the test, writing, pausing to think, erasing, then resuming writing.

She hums under her breath as she works, but not so loudly as to disturb the other students.

Anders comes in, disgustingly awake and cheerful for a Monday morning.

He sits down, stares at his quiz for a while, then slowly starts to write.

Rogue is still half-drunk, and very hungover. She looks at the quiz, her eyes cross, and she fails miserably. Not that she would have done much better sober.

Draco wonders in looking like he's in a resonably good mood.

Connor's sitting next to his brother.

Janet walks into class and sits as far away from Sam Carter as possible. She scribbles down the quiz and the translations, turns them in, and then leaves. (attempted/excelled) Her body language, clothing, and makeup is different than usual, but she remains silent throughout the entire class period unless directly spoken to.

Dream notices Janet has changed, but believes it is no business of his. He smiles as she hands in her quiz.

Logan doesn't remember Rory being in this class... but hey, it could be the fact that he skips as often as he feels he can get away with it.

He takes comfort in her disheveled appearance today.

Quiz: Attempted-passed.

Rory notices Logan come in, and studiously looks away from him.

Sonia finds her usual window seat before starting the quiz. She is bothered by one particular term in the passage, but soon recognizes and corrects her mistake.

Jack hates Monday's he really and truely does. He sighs and finds a pencil.

(Attempted, barely passed.)

Thomasina arrives for her Classics lesson on time and settles into an empty seat. She does well on the quiz, getting the vocabulary and usage questions easily and having quite a bit of fun with the translation.

Janet walks calmly into class, translates the passage and takes the quiz (attempted/excelled), and then leaves as quickly as possible without speaking to anyone that does not speak directly to her. Her clothing, makeup, and body language are different than usual.

In spite of the hangover, Rory also manages to excel on her other quiz.

After she takes the quiz (attempted-excelled), Lane leans over and whispers,

"Hey, are you okay?"

Rory smiles, and says, "Yeah. I went to a party last night, and I'm...well, I'm feeling the effects of drinking something a little stronger than I anticipated."

"I see. I'm glad it's nothing too serious."

*Lane knows her mother is not actually here, but that 'voice of reason' still plays over and over in her head, making her feel guilty when she thinks about partying and stuff like that.*

Rory smiles sheepishly, and a hint of color sneaks back into her cheek.

She suddenly thinks of something she's been meaning to talk to Lane about. "Hey, you're in that fashion class, right?"

"Yeah, why?"

*Lane knows why Rory is asking, but she feels like making her work for it today.*

Rory lifts her sunglasses, deciding she can brave the classroom light in favor of making eye contact with her friend.

"You guys are making my sidekick outfit, aren't you? Please, please, please tell me that someone has come up with something tasteful. My lab partner - the Malfoy guy - mentioned something about...latex and high boots."

*Lane tries ultra-hard not to laugh*

"Oh, yeah, we have been working on that. I'm gonna level with you, Rory. It's not pretty. There was an awful lot of spandex, short shorts, and the color pink flying around that room last week."

*cringes*

"But, hey - you'd look good in anything, right?"

Rory rolls her eyes.

"But can I fight crime in anything? And moreover, I heard that this guy whose been...obnoxious to me is in that class, and I can just imagine that he'll try to put me in something awful."

"Well, how much actual crime-fighting do you anticipate doing, anyway?

I can promise my design is not the worst thing imaginable, but I can't vouch for anyone else. And that Beeblebrox guy seems to fancy the more hideous options anyway. Do you get to make the final decision? I'm not sure I'd trust him! And what obnoxious guy?"

"I have no idea. The Tick seems to just want companionship while he wanders around fighting crime," Rory says with a shrug.

"I think I get costume approval. Beeblerox kind of evaded the question when I asked, though. And for the obnoxious guy..."

Rory looks around, and lowers her voice confidentially. "His name's Logan Huntzberger. Do you know him?"

"Oh my gosh!"

*lowers voice*

"Oh my gosh -are you serious? He's totally my partner. And, hey - that would explain his whole attitude in class last week. What a jerk. What did he do to you anyway? He wouldn't let me see his design, so I don't even know what I'll have to be 'modeling' in this week's class."

"Are you kidding? He's your partner?" Rory whispers frantically. "Okay, so last week in our communications class, he kissed me. Totally not invited, and completely invasive. And I got into a big fight with Logan - Logan Echolls, I mean, the one I'm dating - over it."

She taps her pencil against the desk angrily. "Oh, he better not come up with something slutty for me to wear or something. Or for you to wear, rather," she says, shooting an apologetic glance at Lane.

"WHAT?!! That is crazy! Who even does stuff like that?! That takes jerk to a whole new level."

*Lane secretly wonders why the exciting stuff never happens to her*

"Oh, man - thanks a lot, Rory! I bet that outfit is going to be crazy-ugly." *sighs* "But I'll take one for team Gilmore. Speaking of 'team Gilmore' - the diner was 'blown up'? How's Luke taking it? Any word on rebuilding?"

"Yeah, I mean...it was sort of for class, but he took it too far. And...yeah. I'm not talking to him. But I am very sorry about the costume," she adds, wincing. "Especially if it's the one I end up wearing, too."

Rory sighs. "As for the diner...they're rebuilding - I think it might've already started. And Luke didn't take it very well...but he, um, doesn't know how it was blown up, exactly. He thinks it was the zombies...which is one way of putting it, I guess," she says with a wry grin.

*Lane laughs*

"Yeah, you can blame just about anything on the zombies around here, it seems!"

Sora groaned slightly, all this talk about home coming and stuff was messing up his focus on studying.
