There was a box with a sign that said 'Cameras here' on Steve's desk today, and a large table with all sorts of art supplies: paint, ink clay, stones, glue, glitter, feathers, magazines to cut photos from, among other ~~moddable~~ things.

"So mixed media," Steve began, "is kind of like collage, only not, in that collage can be included in mixed media. There's a handout at each of your work stations that will explain more. Your assignment for today is to begin a mixed media project, as you are by now familiar with all the media you might need to complete one. This room will be open over the next few weeks for you to continue working on your projects. Your completed project will be evaluated as part of your final grade--and before you 'freak out,' remember I will be grading effort, not talent." Steve paused for a long moment, then broke out in a broad grin. "You'll find some other literature at your work stations, as well. Next week, we'll be going on a field trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. We won't be able to stay there more than a few hours ~~because I might be identified~~, so I've provided you with some brochures and maps of the gallery to let you start thinking about how to spend your time there. Meet me at the parking lot by the causeway next Monday at the beginning of the lunch period. Are there any questions?"

Yeah, A.J. was never really one to worry about grades even in subjects that weren't, you know, like air to him, but he did seem to get a dorky smirk of excitement at a field trip.

Mixed media was what A.J. liked to think he did best. He considered for a moment how he might possibly be able to incorporate the project he had started this weekend into it, but, for now, preliminary sketches in his sketchbook as he brainstormed for something totally awesome.

Naminé

Naminé was here. Very glad that Steve mentioned effort and not talent.

Naminé smiled brightly. She and Charlie had gone to the National Gallery once when she first came to Fandom; she couldn't wait to see it again.

Naminé was intrigued by the idea of mixed media. And wondered if dipping a chicken in paint and letting him wander across canvas was a possible element.

Savannah was cheerful about the field trip.

Graded?

...That didn't bode well.

Sora looked vaugely panicked as he plopped himself down next to Namine.

"Photographs count as media right?" He winced.

Naminé smiled reassuringly. "Of course they do," she said. "All sorts of things count as media. You could paint over your photographs and then take a picture of that. Very post-modern."

Kairi would probably kill him for painting over their photo's, but he could always make copies! Yeah! That worked.

"Cool!" He grinned and looked at her sheepishly. "Uhh... do you have any pictures of yourself Namine?"

"Myself?" Naminé flushed. "You know, I don't know that I do. I suppose I should, shouldn't I?"

"Totally!" Sora grinned brightly. "I'm gonna use pictures of all of my friends so I'll need one of you and Valentine!"

Naminé laughed, eyes shining. "That's ... wonderful. Your idea. I'll certainly take one for you. We will, I mean. I ... thank you."

"Huh?" Sora smile and tilted his head at her. "Thanks for what?"

She shook her head, not sure how to put it into words properly. "For you, I think." She laughed again. "Never mind. I just wanted to say it, that's all."

"Oh...okay?" Sora laughed slightly. "Uhh I guess you're welcome then!"

Naminé laughed again. "It's a good thing. You have an enormous heart, you know. I never doubted ... that things would turn out right again. Because you'd make it work out, damn the consequences and all of that."

Sora rubbed his neck and smiled. "My friends are important, but I mean I didn't really damn the consequences... did I?" He blinked, to him that wasn't really a good thing.

Naminé considered that for a long moment. "I suppose ... not in the way it sounds. I don't think you'd hurt anyone else, for one, or at least, not anyone innocent. But I think no matter what it cost to you, you'd make sure your friends were all right."

She hesitated only a moment before adding, "There are some ... that I can't say that for. Who think that ... if their goal is to do good, it doesn't matter whether they do good, to get there. And maybe that's the only thing that matters."

He nodded slightly, in understanding. "Yeah... I met someone like that, the real Ansem. He said something about hurting people to make things right."

Naminé bit her lip. "DiZ, as well. He was so angry. I ... I think maybe they're wrong. If you hurt people, you haven't made anything right. I don't think it ... can work like that."
