Library [Sunday, 11/25/07]

After a quiet few days spent in his room, Lee's finally ventured out to open the library. He's pretty sure that most everyone will still be in their rooms or off island, relaxing and enjoying the American holiday.

With that in mind, he's situated the cart for the books a few feet away from the desk and he's trying to toss books into it.

The library was open.

"Don't think books were meant for that." River had appeared in the doorway from out of nowhere and she watched the tossing of books, head tilted.

"Thought library aides should be protective of books," River pointed out, entering the library. "Or are you teaching them the harsh reality of life?"

There was a smile, but a slightly nervous one. "Neither am I." One finger played with a strand of her hair. "Came to say thank you," she said, looking straight at Lee. "For staying. In the Town Hall."

River felt awkward because, if she was honest, she wasn't sure she had stayed there for him had the roles been reversed. She didn't quite like suspecting that, and she stared down at her bare feet. "Yes," she said. "Mostly."

As far as River knew Adah was still in the clinic. She drew an invisible pattern on the floor with her foot, eyes following the progress. "Adah," she said, then stopped, looking up. "Sorry about falling asleep on your floor. Thought I'd get wiser as I got older. Opposite direction, it seems."

With half a smile, River said: "Something in common, then." As well as a bleak future, a love of flying and feelings for the same girl. "Should let you get back to book throwing."

River just couldn't resist pulling a book off one of the shelves and tossing it on to the cart from where she was standing, trying to hold back a giggle. She took a few steps backwards towards the door.

"You will have to let me know when there's a match," River replied, now laughing.

"Won't. That'd stop me from winning." She raised an eyebrow, then laughed again, turning around and walking out of the library.
