Spider's Treasure Hunting Group--Journalism Field Trip

Waiting for Mitsumishi to return from her trip with the others, Spider looked at his group. "Is everyone armed, carrying some sort of survival gear/suntan lotion/water/folding shovel or whatnot?"

Logan nods. He's holding a shotgun, wearing a baseball cap and hiking boots (along with his usual jeans, t-shirt, and long-sleeved cotton shirt) and carrying a backpack with supplies - including some food bars, a bottle of water, a flask of whiskey, a Mag light and a Leatherman. (And condoms. Just in case.) Also, lots of asprin.

"I'm here," Logan says. His eyes are bloodshot and he looks like he's had a rough night.

"Here," Rory says, waving from beside Logan.

She's dressed comfortably, and her hair is carefully plaited in that way that girls who don't spend a lot of time outdoors think they should do their hair for outings like this.

She also has a small backpack, filled with a thermos of coffee (she ran out of cups a long time ago), a bottle of water, some various food-like things, a hand-held flashlight, a Swiss army knife, her pills (in case they're not back by morning, she doesn't want to miss a day) and Swann's Way by Marcel Proust.

"You okay?" she asks Logan when Spider's attention is elsewhere.

He smiles at her. "Fine. Just a bit of a headache," he says. "Um, would you mind picking up our Homecoming tickets if I give you the money for them? The girl running the ticket sales is my ex and I'd rather not deal with her."

"Sure," Rory says, nodding. "I was kind of expecting as much. I, um, heard some stuff about what happened yesterday."

Logan looks upward and shakes his head. "Miss Drama Queen's probably spread it all over the school by now. What'd you hear?"

"That you were both...upset, though no one really said what you were fighting about," Rory says, shrugging slightly and trying to be diplomatic, "and something about her punching you in the face. And that you beat up a trashcan and tore up all the money and tickets," she adds, arching a brow.

"I didn't tear up anything," Logan says. "And she barely tapped me. But that trash can was asking for it."

Rory nods. "I was pretty sure most of it was bull. But yeah. Still doesn't sound fun. I don't mind taking care of the tickets - for the sake of the trash cans, if nothing else," she says with a small smile.

"Thanks," he says, and kisses her forehead lightly.

Mitsumushi emerged from the library, still smiling that faint, sweet smile. "Professor Jerusalem? Are you ready?"

"I'm ready," he assured her. "We're going to wait for two more students, however."

Jayne arrives. Im here * has Vera and more then a few gernades on his belt*

"Hey," Rory says, waving at Jayne, "you don't happen to have some kind of small, easy-to-use weapon you could lend me, do you? Because all I have is this," she adds, holding up her Swiss army knife.

Behind Rory's shoulder, Logan shakes his head, mouthing DON'T GIVE HER ANYTHING.

Jayen gives him a confused shrug, not understanding.

yeah.. *Jayne hands her a gun that was strapped to his leg*

Will that do?

"Yes," Rory says, examining it. "Can you show me how to work it? The only other time I've fired a gun was when I thought I was someone else...I've never really had any, y'know' training with this stuff."

*Jayne gives her a quick demonstration, holding the gun thats strapped to his *other* leg - a similer size and weight*

*aim it, take a deep breath... relax your elbow, dont lock it. sqeeze the trigger,it aint a video game, you dont need to jerk it. There'll be a kickback, so let yer arm go out, not in... allright?

Rory nods. "Thanks. I get it," she says, awkwardly attempting the posture and movement that Jayne had just shown her.

*Jayne smiles, reassuringly* Yer not that bad girl, you'll do allright...

Logan taps the barrel of the gun lightly with a finger. "Just keep this end pointed away from us. Think you can handle that?" he teases.

Rory attempts to give Logan a withering look, but it's a bit ruined by the smile she can't quite hold back.

"I'll try," she says sarcastically.

"I'm sure you'll be great with it," Logan says. "I'll be, uh, back here," he says, backing away carefully to take his assigned place near Phoebe.

"I'm always armed on one of these trips," Phoebe says with a smile. She looks at Rory. "I have an extra stun gun you can use."

*Jayne gives her a weak, almost guilty smile*

Phoebe smiles at Jayne and shakes her head. She moves over to him to say softly. "You better?" She knew he wasn't okay, but she wasn't going to embarass him.

*Jayne just shakes his head*

Phoebe nods and hugs him. "I'm here for you, okay? You need to talk, I'll listen."

She steps back and makes sure she's prepared for whatever happens on this trip.

Seeing that all of Professor Jerusalem's party had assembled, Mitsumushi gestured to the library doors. "This way."

The trip through the library stacks was silent, passing beneath books with wings and pausing once to let a stampeding herd of thesaurii go by. Eventually things became darker, and a light was produced, enabling them to watch some of the scrolls scuttle away into the darkness.

Eventually, Mitsumushi turned to the party. "We have arrived," she announced softly. "I will be waiting for your return."

Nodding, Spider stepped forward, finding himself in a small hut lined with painted slabs of stone. Pulling his bowel disruptor, he looked around warily. "Jayne, the door's there. You take point. And don't shoot at anything that looks human. Let me deal with that."

*Jayne nods to the professor and hefts Vera threateningly, and opens the door warily, standing off to one side, then peeks around, leading with Vera, not his body*

Spider gestured to Rory. "You, with me. Logan, you take up the rear with the Assistant."

*Jayne goes through the door, stepping out into a dusty road of sorts, in a seemingly uninhabited village*

Phoebe draws her gun and waits for Logan to come up beside her. she was great at laying down cover fire so she didn't have a problem taking up the rear.

*Jayne heads out into the street and turns east, watching carefully, very aware, and moving slow*

Making sure that Rory is behind him, Spider moved slowly after Jayne, keeping an eye on their surroundings.

After looking to see that Logan was with her, Phoebe followed Jerusalem and Rory.

Rory gingerly follows Jerusalem, glancing over her shoulder every few minutes to make sure the others were still there.

* a rather odd looking creature lumbers into view, an odd cross between a raccoon, and a skunk. It sits about the size of a rottweiler*

*Jayne pauses for a moment, then looks back at the Professor, wondering wether to shoot or not*

Spider shrugged, unsure of what it was but relatively certain it wasn't sentient. In a place like this you never knew what might suddenly grow three heads and attempt to eat you.

Rory steps back a little, and holds up her gun awkwardly - but doesn't shoot. If zombie weekend had taught her anything, it was to control your reflexes.

She looks to Jerusalem to see what she should do.

"If it comes toward us, feel free to shoot it," Spider told them. "On the other hand, weapon fire will attract attention and the map makes reference to cannibals and monsters. How dangerously do you want to live?"

"How about I don't shoot unless you and Jayne do, because you seem to know what you're doing," Rory says nervously. "Because I tend to get a little trigger-happy, so it's probably best if I mentally enforce a restriction on myself."

Logan levels his shotgun at the creature, waiting to see what it would do.

Phoebe has her gun up and is waiting to se if the creature is going to become a threat to them or not.

*Jayne shrugs and ignores the creature, staying on this heading until they are almost clear of the buildings, then turns north, and begins to head in that general direction.*

Rory follows, trailing hesitantly behind Jerusalem and still holding her gun up at waist level.

[ooc: This may have been sent twice - I'm on a friend's computer at the moment, and it's acting all weird. Anyway, if you have AIM, we could start a chat and move this thing along. If you want to, I mean. :)]
