Alternative Tactics, Wednesday Period 1, 21/11

"My finals are cursed."

Ladies and gentlemen, Kerrigan's opening statement. Paraphrased. The original was a little more on the profane side.

"I'll just... evaluate last module based on class assignments," she noted, and if anyone thought that was unfair, they'd... probably do best not to think it too loudly. "Anyway, that all being done, we move to our third and final module today, which is battlefield maneuvers. We move beyond equipment into actual movements-- no amount of hiding behind a set of armor can help you if you're going to act like an idiot." She wrote the words down on the whiteboard that had been set up in the danger room. "Today, we're going to be dealing with evasion - your top priority when you're dealing with lopsided odds. And no, 'if I can't see them, they can't see me' doesn't work on a battlefield, unless you're particularly intent on getting your head shot in."

She was always so refreshingly optimistic about their chances.

"Of course, stealth suits are going to come in handy in these kind of situations, but obviously not everyone is either going to have or use the tech. Your objective for today is to figure out a way to evade three complements of marines here," squiggle, "here," squiggle, "And here, based on the challenges and the opportunities of a jungle environment. This, of course, is a little easier than when you're dealing with a full-out desert or something of the kind, but I'm starting you kids off easy for the module."

She turned back to the room, which had, in the process of speaking, warped into a jungle world. The desks, in some explosion of a sense of humor, had turned into logs. There may have been a monkey flitting about.

"On the other hand, this means your enemy can easily obscure or outmaneuver you as well. Marines are short-to-medium range fighters: use this to your advantage. Stay at a distance and avoid their fire - fire your shots only when it is necessary, or an enemy has ventured far enough out of formation that he is easily picked off. The plan is to avoid notice so you can reach," squiggle, "This objective. If you find yourself targetted, use your partner and create a distraction, then reconvene. Play to each other's strengths."

There may have followed another ten-minute technical lecture on troop movements and using the environment to your advantage when it wasn't covered in trees, but most of it was probably steeped in babble.

"This is the very basis of micro tactics," she finished, as the heavily oversketched whiteboard vanished into the background, "So you can laugh and call it 'easy' if you'd like, but if you can't manage this, anything else is essentially beyond you and I suggest a desk job."

[ wait for the ocd up! ]

Still shaking her head over the impracticalities of ground-based combat, Anemone took copious notes.

Evasion maneuvers, she could do evasion maneuvers. Anemone started pulling her hair back, twisting it into a braid as she looked around for a partner.

"Hey Billy." Anemone smiled wanly and flipped the braid over her shoulder. "Yeah. I'm thinking move fast and move quiet? I'm still not used to being limited to ground-based maneuvers."

Re: Team Up

"That's about what I had in mind too." he nodded.

"Then it's a plan." Anemone grin was somewhat feral. "Too bad it's limited engagement. I'd rather just wipe them all out."

Re: Listen to the Lecture

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka took lots and lots of notes. And he added notes to his notes, noting any things of note that might be useful back home.

"Orangey!" Sokka said with a grin, as he bent over and started smearing dirt on himself. "How are you at stealthy-things?"

"I'm awesome," she said, putting her hands on her hips and setting her chin proudly. "I'm tiny and I move fast. It helps."

Oooh, the dirt was a good idea. She stooped to start smudging up her outfit, too.

Which was a shame. She liked her outfit.

"Good," Sokka said, with a nod. "Then you're on my team. Stay low, be quiet, and move fast. This is gonna be a piece of cake."

"How do you know you're not on my team?" she teased. "See if you can keep up."

Re: Team Up

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Fine," Sokka spat. "We're each on each other's team. I'll try to keep up, if YOU follow my lead. Let's go."

Re: Team Up

[personal profile] the_merriest 2007-11-22 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Rikku couldn't find any real objection to that, even though the logic was all twisted sideways. She nodded. "Let's do this thing."

Re: Avoid

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka set off moving low and quick in a wide arc around where he thought the first group of marines was. He hoped Rikku was following. Or leading. Or nearby, anyway.

Re: Team Up

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka nodded, and dashed off (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1605515.html?thread=97770891#t97770891).

Luke was very, very good at being sneaky, but he took careful notes anyway.

Re: Avoid

[personal profile] the_merriest 2007-11-22 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Rikku was very much nearby. Keeping low to the ground, taking cover where possible, and staying close enough to Sokka that they could count as partners.

Re: Avoid

[identity profile] sarcasm-guy.livejournal.com 2007-11-22 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
It should be noted that Sokka did NOT start firing at the marines. Did you note it? You should note it. Sokka wants some mad props for that.

Instead, he froze, quietly crept behind a tree, and then looked behind him for Rikku.
