Keeping Your Wits About You... [Monday 2nd Period 10-11] Class # 11 DANGER ROOM

Wilson was not unsympathetic to the events of the past week and the toll it had on the students. So he juggled through the syllabus a little and chose an exercise that was a bit whimsical but at the same time had a physical element that might help the kids focus a bit.

Wilson had handwavily sene out an e-mail to the students to have them meet in the Danger Room and he was there this morning, waiting beside a portable white board.

Once everyone was gathered around, he began the lecture.

"Morning everybody," Wilson began with a smile. "Today, we're going to learn how to jump off a moving train, safely. First I'm going to give you a quick lecture going over the key elements of train jumping, these being reason for jumping off the train, math and how to do it. Then we're going to partner up and you and your partner will take turns jumping off a moving train here in the Danger Room."

Smiling, Wilson moved towards the white board and he began to give the brief lecture on how to jump off a moving train. When he was finished, he capped the pen and turned back to the kids.

"Any questions? Okay, here are the ground rules, Johnny? No flying, Wyatt no orbing, same for you Chris for everybody else, no flying, levitating, teleporting or sending yourself by carrier pigeon. The object of the exercise is to be able to do the nitty gritty way."

Hands on his hips, he gave the class a grin.

"Pair up and get hopping!"

[ooc: OCDs are on their way up! Go for it!]

Johnny was hanging around, ready to do the train thing.

Jumping off a moving train was child's play compared to the things that Hoshi had survived with Starfleet. Still, she was happy to give it a try. "Hi, need a partner?"

"Hoshi?" Johnny grinned. "It's been a long time. How've you been?"

"I'm great," said Hoshi, smiling in return. "The past twenty years have been pretty chaotic back home, but I managed to escape in one piece. How about you?"

"That's great," he said. "And I've just been kicking back, doing the Superhero thing."

"That sounds like fun," said Hoshi. "I signed on as a translator with the first deep-space ship I could get, but I found myself doing the hero thing from time to time. There are some pretty unfriendly people out there. We got to save Earth from being destroyed, though."

He grinned. "Sounds like we're on the same team, Hoshi," he said. "Saving the Earth is what I'm all about. Now, what do you say we show our classmates how jumping off a train is really done."

"Sounds like fun!" said Hoshi with a lot more enthusiasm than she ever had during her years at Fandom.

"Let's board then and see where this train is trying to take us," Johnny did just that, turning to see if she needed a hand in climbing aboard.

Hoshi didn't need a hand, but she appreciated the gesture. "It can't be any wilder than some of the rides that I've been on," she commented. "Of course, there aren't really any trains where I come from, except for the one at Disneyland."

"Hah! Disneyland, excellent!" Johnny laughed as the train started moving. "So not fair -- man I could just fly out of this thing."

"Unfortunately, the rest of us mere humans can only escape by jumping, unless I can overpower the engineer and hijack the train," said Hoshi. "I wouldn't try it by myself, though. Maybe if I had Travis and Malcolm with me..."

"Yeah, let's not try it, sweetheart. Besides, I'm sure... hey, I wouldn't be here for detention come Saturday will I? I could fly out of here because the reunion is over come tomorrow. Right?"

Re: Class Activity

"Sure, that could work," said Hoshi. "I can't stick around for detention anyway. If I don't meet Jonathon in Paris by Thursday, he might send a team of commandos in to rescue me. But jumping sounds a lot easier."

"Maybe for you sweetheart," he said but all right. "Let's do this. You want to go first? Wait for that first bit of patchy grass and go for it?"

Re: Class Activity

[identity profile] itsjustlanguage.livejournal.com 2007-11-19 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sounds good to me," said Hoshi. She focused on the grass, counted to three, closed her eyes and jumped.

It was a lot easier than the time she had to jump over the railing to escape when she was on the Xindi weapon.

Johnny shouted, "Whoooo! Excellent Hoshi!" Then he focused, and waited for the next turf of grass and when it came, he jumped forward, allowing his shoulder to brace his weight as he hit, and then he just rolled with it until he was still.

"Awesome."

"That was fun!" said Hoshi, standing up and dusting off her clothes. "Can we do it again?"

"Come on, let's go for it," he laughed, enjoying her excitement.
