Art 101, Period 4, Class 10 (Monday 11-5)

Steve stood before his class, looking tired but remarkably cheerful. "First off, I'd like to apologize for not being here last week; I've caught up on radio and wish I could have been here to help, but I had a personal situation to tend to." By which he meant he'd been playing a weeklong cat-and-mouse game with Bucky Barnes and Tony Stark all over Manhattan. Bucky had been trying to kill Tony and dodge Steve, Steve had been trying to stop Bucky and dodge Tony, and Tony had been completely oblivious. He kind of would have taken a plague instead. "And if someone could explain to me what's going on right now, that would be excellent."

Steve decided to go on as he would if the class were completely normal. "Today is all about a subject near and dear to my heart as of yesterday: photography!" Steve was positively beaming at this point. "A lot of art is about recreating something found in nature, or creating something not found in nature. Photographs capture what's real, and can show us the beauty that's right in front of our eyes. Or," he added, "the hilarity.

"There's really not a lot to photograph in this classroom, so your assignment for the week is to take the disposable camera on your desk, get out there, and take some pictures that speak to you. Next week, you will turn your cameras back in to me and I'll have them developed. If you have a camera of your own you'd rather use, that's fine, just bring me the film. Or the uh..." Steve consulted his notes. "Memory card." He hoped someone could help him with that part. "If you find you want to take more than twenty-four pictures and need another camera, call me or come by my office hours. These cameras are fairly easy to use, but if anyone needs help or has any questions, please ask."

Naminé, still a teenager. A very, very confused teenager.

John Sheppard, nametag firmly in place.

Pam Anderson.

She included her maiden name on her nametag, because...yes.

Abigail Whistler.

No nametag needed, thank goodness.

Talk, pass notes, wonder why Mr. Rogers is so enthusiastic, and so on as you please.

Naminé - having missed the plague and whatever it was that turned half the student body into adults - was so very, very confused right now.

Try not to break them.

Naminé wondered if people ever used cameras to capture moments for later sketching, rather than hurrying through a drawing before the view slipped away.

She also wondered where she could get more of these cameras.

As soon as she pings in.

Naminé was here. Wishing someone had told her it was Everybody Else Grows Up day.

Steve had the feeling Namine might be able to commiserate with him, so he paused to ask her, "Are you half as confused as I am?"

"More so," she said, looking up with relief. "You don't know, either? I spent the week in France and ..."

Naminé gestured vaguely, as the rest of it didn't require words.

He shook his head. "I was in New York. I just got back yesterday. Uh, Namine. Do me a favor and steer clear of a man in a green cape and full armor until things get back to normal, okay?"

Naminé stared for a moment, and then nodded quickly. "All right. If I see anyone of that description, I'll portal away. Are you ... all right?"

Steve grinned to reassure her. "I'm fine. Just concerned for the safety of my students."

"I'm very good at running away," she said with a smile. "The portals help, with that."

Naminé hesitated, and then added, "If you ever ... if it's all right to impose. If you ever see a tall figure in a black cloak with the hood up, or several of them. Would you kindly tell them to leave?"

"I can do that," Steve told her. "I can also hit them really hard, if you'd prefer that."

Naminé smiled wryly. "Is both, perhaps, an option?"

Steve smiled at her. "Both is definitely an option."

Naminé smiled back, relieved. "Thanks."

Steve was at the front of the room, looking through an envelope of recently-developed pictures and chortling with great glee.

When the class was done and Jamie had figured out exactly when he was he then approached the teacher somewhat warily.

"Steve? Just so you know I wanted to apologize in advance for the next class or so," Jamie replied. "Annnnnnnnd the one where I got naked. Annnnnnnnnnnd the one where I- Oh. Wait I haven't done that either yet. Did I do- Nope. Haven't done that either..."

"Mr. Madrox," Steve said. He didn't even have to check for the nametag to be sure of that. "Might I suggest not doing those things?" he asked hopefully. He figured it was a fool's pipe dream, but hey, worth a try.

Madrox smiled and shook his head. "Well if I did that then there would possibly a divergent timeline, then a possible pocket universe and then Reed Richards would get all cranky."

"I'm not sure it works that way on this island," Steve pointed out. And Reed Richards was not exactly on his top fifty favorite people list right now, anyway.

Madrox shrugged. "Sorry. Would it help you to know your stern example and good example will inspire me later in life?"

Steve eyed Jamie warily, as if he could not quite believe this was true. "Yes."

"Then we'll just go with that explanation, shall we?" Madrox said trying to suppress a snicker.

"Agreed," Steve sighed.
