Comparative Religions, Monday, Period 3, Week #8

"Good morning, my class!" Vala greeted them cheerfully as they entered. Possibly waaaaay too cheerfully. No, she wasn't going to explain that either. In any event, there was a large jar of applesauce on Sam's desk for him. "First, a huge thank you to my able assistant who I am told did a wonderful job explaining paganism. However, if you have any questions about it, I'll be happy to answer them. Due to my unavoidable absence last week, you missed out on the midterm, which will be more of a practical--mostly because I don't feel like grading tests this weekend--and take place over the course of this week."

"Your assignment is to choose one of the religions we've studied so far--not your own--and immerse yourselves in it for the week. Customs, beliefs, style of dress if that makes a difference, religious practices, all of it. I want you to become a member of that faith. And then I want you to be prepared to give an oral presentation on your experiences next week, so we can all learn from what you learned. Isn't cooperation fun?" Again with the big grin.

"So, please sign in and choose your religion, then come up with a plan of att--er, action--for the week."

Lana chose paganism - wiccan particularly, since she thought she had a pretty good handle on that already.

Lana took good notes and wondered a bit about the applesauce on Sam's desk.

Adah isn't taking her usual notes so much as she's ending up trying to see if she can manage any palindromes involving applesauce and Sam. What? It was kind of a challenge.

Z was taking dutiful notes.

Okay, so she was boggling at Sam's applesauce. Same difference. Really.

After careful consideration of the options, flipping through her notes in an assortment of languages and order, Adah decided that her choice would be the decadently ancient religion of the Egyptians. Especially if she can work out more research on that parasitic version.

Z decided to be Jewish. After all, she already knew a Jew, and he seemed...okay, not exactly like everybody else, but his differences were attributable to him being Bridge, not his religion. How hard could it be?

Luke took lots of notes.

If some of them looked like doodles, well...they were very thorough notes, that's all.

Really.

Luke tossed a note onto her desk.

Hi!

Luke decided to be a Christian, and made a mental note to wander down to the church at some point during the week.

A note disrupting Adah's attempts to make sense out of a mas rof ecuaselppa was a welcome interruption. She grinned and carefully aimed a note back.

Hello, stranger. Fancy meeting you here.

Figured i might try this class thing out, Luke wrote, grinning back. Radio makes it sounds like you've been pretty busy.

Adah's head tilted at reading the assessment of what the more social conscious population might be getting of her recent activities, and she lightly grinned.

"I'd say that's a fairly accurate report; life has been..." She had to pause a moment when she wrote this, trying to find a satisfactory word, "eventful for me lately. How about yours? I don't listen to radio, but perhaps I should."

Pretty exciting, Luke replied. I met far to many different versions of people I know during Parents Weekend.

Adah read over that a few times to make sure she was processing the words right.

"That sounds like it would have been terribly confusing, but potentially wretchedly amusing."

I saw what my best friend will look like once he has three teenagers, Luke wrote, eyes sparkling, so that was fun. And I ran into a couple of people I haven't yet, but know me.

Adah was still trying to fathom what it would be like to run into people she knew, her sisters most likely, under similar terms. She concluded that it would just be much easier for her to deal with simply sharing her own experiences that weekend.

I got to learn that my mother slept with Evie Carnahan's brother. Yes. Parent's Weekend is definitely interesting...
