Josh was on his cell phone when the government students began arriving. "Ron? Where are you?"

A pause.

"You knew about that bookstore. And the coffee shop."

A longer pause.

"I didn't exactly ask for a class this early in the morning, you know."

A really, really long pause.

"I'm not listening to you singing the Partridge Family at me." He clicked his phone closed.

A tall man with a serious expression on his face and a buzz cut poked his head into the classroom a moment later, glanced around and then walked to the back of the room.

He had an earpiece and a dark suit. Anyone who had ever watched the news could probably guess who was going to come in after him.

Josh bounced to his feet, grinning. "Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States."

A distinguished looking man with a warm smile came into the classroom and shook Josh's hand, clearly thrilled to see him. They exchanged pleasantries before he turned towards the students.

"My name is Jed Bartlet," he said, "and I'm the President of the United States back where Josh comes from. Someone else is apparently President in this dimension?" Josh nodded, looking a bit pained. "I understand that you are learning about the Executive Branch. Josh decided to call in a favor and get me to guest lecture."

He sat down at Josh's desk and smiled. "I'm here to answer any questions you might have about the historical powers of the presidency or my experiences with the job in particular." He looked around the room. "Don't be shy."

"It's an honor to meet you, sir," Lana said. "What is the most difficult part about being president."

"Having to make decisions that send other people's children into harm's way," Jed replied promptly. "It's never something I take lightly."

"And what is the best part of being president?"

"Moments like this," Jed said, grinning. "Getting to make a difference in other people's lives."

She smiled back at him. "So... how do you ever manage without Josh?"

Jed grinned proudly over at him. "By running up huge phone bills to Fandom, if I recall correctly. He's still one of the most talented political hands I've ever had the pleasure of working with."

Josh's cheeks had gone a little pink.

"So, if he suggests I should run for president when I'm old enough...?"

"Listen to him," Jed said, smiling. "He's got a great eye for talent."

Lana blushed and ducked her head. "Thank you, sir."

Anathema's hand shot into the air.

"Yes," Jed said, nodding at her.

"What would you say is the most important issue that needs to be addressed in America today?"

Jed paused thoughtfully. "Education," he said finally. "It's the silver bullet. Get a proper education and it doesn't matter what neighborhood you grew up in--your possibilities are unlimited. That is the promise we need to fulfill to our children: to give them more of a chance than we received."

Hope the pastries are up to standard today...

Lana brought in some wonderful pastries today and coffee, of course.

Don't ask for autographs, though...
