Newspaper Staff Meeting, 4pm FHT, Journalism Room

Coffee, pastries, NEWS. A familiar combination. Peter was at the front of the room with a copy of last week's paper to hide behind if certain teachers came by.

Anakin didn't look at all nervous. Really. "If you ruin Rory's birthday by making her unhappy with this, I'm going to be upset."

"I was talking about calling Aeryn because you and I both know that Rory's going to find the picture in the paper funny and think you're overreacting," Peter said.

Peter was fairly certain that Rory would find the picture in the paper thing funny and think he's overreacting. Honestly, he didn't want to risk it either, especially not on her birthday.

But he knew he could win Aeryn over.

Anakin was equally sure of his own position. "Go ahead and call Aeryn then," he decided. "But it's entirely your own fault if you ride to Vegas strapped to the top of a car."

"Okay," Peter said.

But he didn't dial Aeryn's number. Instead, he called someone who held the ultimate trump card.

RING!

John, who was sitting at home doing nothing, picked up on the second ring.

"Hello?"

"Hey, it's Peter. I have Anakin here. Can I put you on speaker so you can settle an argument for us?" Peter asked.

"Hey, my other favorite Peter!" And that sounded weird. "Not dirty. Sure!"

"That's not Aeryn."

Nothing got past him.

"Oops. I misdialed," Peter blatantly lied. "So, John, you remember that picture I sent you a couple days ago?"

"That was awesome!" John said, grinning. "Thanks for thinking of me, Peter!"

"You're welcome," Peter said. "I printed it in the paper and now Anakin's threatening to make me take the bus or ride in the trunk to the bachelor party. He's overreacting, isn't he?"

"No," Anakin said before anyone else could answer.

"Definitely overreacting," John agreed. "He should probably rethink that. That picture could end up all the way in Japan by tonight, you know."

"Thank you, John," Peter said. "Do you think Aeryn would agree?"

"She'd totally agree," John said. "I'm asking her right now."

John put the phone down and asked Bertram loud enough for everyone to hear. He picked the phone back up.

"She said yes, she agrees with Peter."

"No, she didn't," Anakin snapped. Sulkily.

"Yes, she did," John said, loving this. "And she thinks red velvet looks good on you."

"I believe you, John," Peter said. "So, is it fair to say that you expect me to arrive with Anakin? And I'll be inside the vehicle and not in the trunk or engine?"

"I expect you to arrive with one Anakin Skywalker, in one piece, in the car, not in trunk or on the roof or in the engine. Inside the car. Shotgun, even!"

"Shotgun? You're a very generous person, John," Peter said.

"I like to think so," John said, beaming. "And that doesn't mean an actual shotgun either!"

"Thank you for clarifying for my sake," Peter said.

"Gotta watch the semantics," John agreed.

"Will do," Peter said. "Okay, John, thank you so much and thank Aeryn for me, too. I'll see you at the bachelor party."

Anakin hated everything, oh yes.

Behold! The cloak swooping out behind him! Marvel at the door slamming in his wake.

Tremble at the thought of what revenge he would cook up.

Or roll your eyes at the overreaction. You know, like normal people would.
