Fandom Invasions Class #7 (Thursday period 3)

When the students filed into the Danger Shop they found two young girls standing with John in the usual lecture spot.

"Hi," the older one said, bouncing a little on her toes. "I'm Susannah Lynn and this is my half-sister Grace. Dad asked us to help him with this class since it's all about us.

"See, there was this big swirling thing, a..... vortex?" She looked up at John for confirmation of the word, grinning when he nodded and then continuing. "And a bunch of us kids got pulled through it and came to Fandom and got to meet our parents before they were our parents. It was really freaky and a little scary, but it was also a lot of fun." She giggled. "Seeing everybody's face when they realised we were their kids was really really funny.

"It was so much fun, that Dad decided that you should get a chance to play too! Isn't that great?" She turned and looked up at John again. "This is where you take over, right?"

John smiled and nodded. "It is. Thanks, Susannah." He addressed the class. "Fandom is always throwing the unexpected at you. And sometimes that isn't a hostile invasion. Sometimes it's the next generation. The object this class isn't to fight the invaders, but look after them. Keep them amused, fed, make sure they go to bed on time... you know. Be parents. And then make sure they get back to where they're supposed to be."

Grace pulled on John's pantleg. "Daddy? I wanna colour!"

John picked her up and smiled wryly at the class. "Sometimes it's easier to just beat something up."

"Well, JJ and I are your 'package deal', Daddy." She shot her brother a LOOK. Clearly, their father was having another of Those Days. "Did you bring the truck? I want to ride in the truck."

"Mom only hits him if he deserves it," she said, obviously parroting the other (absent) parent.

"Oh, man, what did I do to deserve this? Okay. If I'm your dad, who's your mom? Or moms?"

And then he focuses on the important part. "My truck? I have a truck? Well of course I have a truck. I'm a truck driver." His face brightens. Dream come true!

"Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. We're twins, we can only have one mom." There's more expressive eyerolling. "She's going to kill you if she hears you say that."

"Mom's going to hit you!" she singsonged, reaching for her brother to spin him around gleefully. "I know! You ask a question, and I'll answer it! Yes, you know Mom. DUH. She's Mom!"

"Mom musta knocked Dad out again. Look! He musta gone back in time! See? Just like she keeps saying!"

"She really must have rattled his brain." she shook her head sadly. "Dad, I'm Maria. That's JJ. You call Mom 'Anemone'. Does any of this sound familiar?"

"I married the girl from the library? But she hates me!" She doesn't.

"She only hates you Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and any day you do something dumb," Maria helpfully pointed out.

Maria nodded woefully. "Daddy, I love you, but you really like doing things that make Mom mad. You're like, the expert."

JJ nodded, as innocently. "Mom says that's why you work so much, to get away."

What? It was inherited. From both sides. Just wait until he tries the puppy dog eyes.

"That's also why we can't ride in the truck with you for more than two consecutive weeks during the summer. You're 'going to indoctrinate us into your particular brand of stupid'," Maria said, TOTALLY looking innocent liek woah.

"Hey, I like my particular brand of stupid," he said defensively. "I know my limits. I don't do more than I should. I got eyes like a hawk and good reflexes. That's all a guy needs."

"Mom says you also need common sense, half a brain, and to quit getting distracted by shiny things." Maria bounced in place impatiently. "Daaaaaaaaaaaad. I'm bored! Let's do something!"

"Okay, munchkin, what do you want to do?" He looked around. "Where's your brother?"

He'd probably have to get used to saying that a lot.

JJ was currently running around, about to make more friends. "There's other kids!" he hollered, from way over there. "An' Valeeentiiiiiiiine!"

"Uncle Valentine? Where?!?!" Maria immediately tore off after her brother (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomhigh/1570038.html?thread=96059126#t96059126), not bothering to wait for her Daddy.
