Keeping Your Wits About You... [Monday 2nd Period 10-11] Class # 6 Danger Room!

Sometime over the hectic weekend the students had been handwavey instructed to come to the Danger Room on Monday. Set up in a sort of 'waiting room' there was a spread of classic English tea sandwiches laid out today along with the usual coffee, tea and water.

Wilson was looking a bit amused as he sat in an overstuffed chair and sipped on his coffee.

As soon as everyone had gathered into the Danger Room, Wilson stood up and walked towards an unassuming little door.

"Good morning."

"I hope everybody had a wonderful Homecoming, it seemed to be a lovely weekend and I know I had a good time saying hello to some old friends."

Crossing his arms and his ankles, he grinned at the class.

"Well, today we have a guest speaker, sort of. Actually he's going to be a guest Adversary for you all. Today's lesson is about how you handle a situation when you know you're going to lose the battle but you need to win the war. Only not with a real war or battle mind you, because that would be mean."

Reaching over for his coffee, he took a sip and then set it back down.

"One by one, you'll go through that door, sit down and engage the Adversary in a game of checkers. Now, were you to win the game of checkers, you would get a rather important bit of information without hassle. However, since that's not the object of the exercise, I'll tell you now that actually winning the game of checkers is about one million to one odds against you. So, how else can you come up with to get the information you will want from this man? Uh and let me say right here and now, I do not suggest or encourage or even condone a violent approach. This is about your wits, not the size of your fists."

Grinning at the class, Wilson reached for a clipboard.

"Okay, you'll go in as I read off your names. Oh! I almost forgot. The bit of information. The Adversary knows the essay question that makes up your Midterm. Yes, your Midterm will be one, very detailed essay question. If you get the question from him, you'll have a leg up on know what you need to study and being able to start early on the particular points you want to put in your essay to help get the best grade possible with the least amount of stress to you. So, good luck."

With that, he began to read off the list of names.

[ooc: Please wait for The OCDs are up and ready to go! Just to clarify, no violence guys just crafty witty type witting. Have fun! :D]

"How so?" Chris asked, studying the board for a moment before moving another piece.

Lucifer simply smiled, moving a piece into place to take one of Chris's pieces.

Chris blocked the move, but it made another of his pieces vulnerable.

"Is there anything I can say or do to convince you to tell me?"

A weakness Lucifer moved his piece to exploit.

"I wouldn't be able to answer until I hear what you offer for it."

"What do I have that you want?" Chris asked.

"What will you offer?" Lucifer countered.

Chris shrugged. "I don't have a lot of money," he said. "But I somehow don't think that would be the thing that would sway you anyway. I could offer my assistance with something though. I'm a hard worker."

"You would indenture yourself for this information?" Lucifer asked, a mild sort of interest showing now.

There was a vaguely disturbing niggling in the back of Chris's brain, telling him to be very careful exactly what he offered. "I would be happy to assist you with a specific task that we agreed to ahead of time in exchange for the information."

Lucifer smiled at the correction. "So you wish to negotiate?"

"Sure," Chris said.

"What do you suggest as a task for me to give you?" Lucifer asked, head cocked slightly to the side.

"Depends on what you need," Chris said. "I can paint or do basic home repair type stuff. I'm also a witch."

Lucifer shook his head. "I have no need for any of those things." He observed the board for a moment. "I am, however, in need of a bartender."

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris considered that. "Do you care if I'm not eighteen?"

In this town?

"Should I?"

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-10-08 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, technically it's illegal for someone under eighteen to bartend," Chris pointed out. "But if you don't care, I don't care."

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"Just as it is illegal to drink when under that age, but I don't see Sheriff Mustang preventing any of this," Lucifer replied.

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
"True enough," Chris agreed. "So, I agree to bartend for you and you give me the question for the midterm? When would you like me to do this and how often?"

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
"Stop by the club this week and we shall find a day for you to work," Lucifer replied.

He smiled, leaning back in his chair. "Trapped in the dorms, under attack... how will you survive?"

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
"That's it?" Chris asked, a little disappointed considering that he could orb out of anywhere anytime. "Sure, I'll swing by." He paused. "Club? You must be the owner of the Devil's Nest."

Yeah, the oblivious boy still hadn't quite figured out who he was dealing with.

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Lucifer nodded. "I am," He said dryly.

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] neurotic-witch.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
"Cool," Chris said, offering his hand. "I'll see you later this week then."

Re: The Challenge - Chris Halliwell

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
Lucifer looked at the hand for a moment, almost curiously, before accepting it. "Until then, Mr. Halliwell."

Chris smiled and shook Lucifer's hand. "See ya!" he said before getting up from the table and leaving, not caring too much about the unfinished game of checkers.
