Keeping Your Wits About You... [Monday 2nd Period 10-11] Class # 6 Danger Room!

Sometime over the hectic weekend the students had been handwavey instructed to come to the Danger Room on Monday. Set up in a sort of 'waiting room' there was a spread of classic English tea sandwiches laid out today along with the usual coffee, tea and water.

Wilson was looking a bit amused as he sat in an overstuffed chair and sipped on his coffee.

As soon as everyone had gathered into the Danger Room, Wilson stood up and walked towards an unassuming little door.

"Good morning."

"I hope everybody had a wonderful Homecoming, it seemed to be a lovely weekend and I know I had a good time saying hello to some old friends."

Crossing his arms and his ankles, he grinned at the class.

"Well, today we have a guest speaker, sort of. Actually he's going to be a guest Adversary for you all. Today's lesson is about how you handle a situation when you know you're going to lose the battle but you need to win the war. Only not with a real war or battle mind you, because that would be mean."

Reaching over for his coffee, he took a sip and then set it back down.

"One by one, you'll go through that door, sit down and engage the Adversary in a game of checkers. Now, were you to win the game of checkers, you would get a rather important bit of information without hassle. However, since that's not the object of the exercise, I'll tell you now that actually winning the game of checkers is about one million to one odds against you. So, how else can you come up with to get the information you will want from this man? Uh and let me say right here and now, I do not suggest or encourage or even condone a violent approach. This is about your wits, not the size of your fists."

Grinning at the class, Wilson reached for a clipboard.

"Okay, you'll go in as I read off your names. Oh! I almost forgot. The bit of information. The Adversary knows the essay question that makes up your Midterm. Yes, your Midterm will be one, very detailed essay question. If you get the question from him, you'll have a leg up on know what you need to study and being able to start early on the particular points you want to put in your essay to help get the best grade possible with the least amount of stress to you. So, good luck."

With that, he began to read off the list of names.

[ooc: Please wait for The OCDs are up and ready to go! Just to clarify, no violence guys just crafty witty type witting. Have fun! :D]

"Good morning," He replied dryly. "Your move?"
absolutesnark: (Listening)

Summer nodded slightly before pushing a red piece forward. She knew she wasn't going to win, but she would at least try.

And Lucifer found it more than acceptable to continue the game in silence. Less chance of annoyance that way.

Of course, also less chance of the girl learning the question as well.

Summer pushed the same piece forward. "You must be really good at this if it's impossible to beat you."

She figured it couldn't hurt to start a conversation with flattery.

Trying to exploit a weakness? Lucifer found it amusing.

"Not really. Before today, I have never played the game."
absolutesnark: (Grin)

"Well, after playing five games before this one, you're probably an expert," Summer replied, remembering how many students had gone before her. "That's probably more games than I have played."

"As you say, Miss Roberts," Lucifer replied, bowing his head politely. "To call oneself an expert at anything is a dangerous thing to say."
absolutesnark: (Curious)

"Why is that dangerous?" Summer asked curiously, moving another piece forward.

"There will always be another better than you," Lucifer replied, looking over the board for a moment before moving his own piece.
absolutesnark: (Small Smile)

"I can't disagree there," Summer nodded. "But you seem really smart. You must have a lot of information stored in your brain."

She watched as he looked over the board, trying to figure out what his next movie might be. "Like the information I'm supposed to try to get from you."

Lucifer smirked, also looking over the board. "Very subtle, Ms Roberts."
absolutesnark: (Eager)

Summer grinned. "I don't suppose you're willing to offer up that information?"

Re: The Challenge - Summer Roberts

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"No," Lucifer replied, shaking his head. "You will have to work for it."
absolutesnark: (Curious)

[personal profile] absolutesnark 2007-10-09 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
Summer considered that. "How exactly am I going to have to work for it?"

"Until you either give up, or find the right question," Lucifer replied, finally moving his piece.
absolutesnark: (Listening)

Re: The Challenge - Summer Roberts

[personal profile] absolutesnark 2007-10-09 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I could offer something in exchange for the information," Summer said. "But I don't think it's worth it."

Re: The Challenge - Summer Roberts

[identity profile] dawn-bearer.livejournal.com 2007-10-09 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
"That would be up to you," Lucifer said. "Information is only worth as much to me as it is to you."
absolutesnark: (Grin)

Re: The Challenge - Summer Roberts

[personal profile] absolutesnark 2007-10-09 03:08 am (UTC)(link)
"It's really not worth all that much to me," Summer said honestly.

Lucifer smirked. "Then why play?"
absolutesnark: (Adorable)

Re: The Challenge - Summer Roberts

[personal profile] absolutesnark 2007-10-09 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
"To see if I could win," Summer said simply.

"A glutton for punishment, I see," Lucifer remarked dryly.
absolutesnark: (Grin)

"Most of us are," Summer shrugged.
