Fandom Library: Friday October 5

Karal was actually a little early opening the library today, but anticipation and nervousness had woken him early.

He had no tea, sadly he still wasn't allowed caffeine, but he did have two ~~handwavily~~ acquired tickets to the Homecoming dance, a compact disc of music, and a hope that the person both were for would stop by.

Once she arrives.

Thursday arrived and headed straight for her office.

Karal made himself go and reshelve books, rather than sitting at the counter fretting.

If you call him, he'll hear you, though.

Molly wandered into the library and looked around for Karal. Not seeing him, she went to stand at the counter and rang the little bell once.

Karal peeked his head out from between the shelves, and smiled when he saw Molly. "Hello," he said happily, hiding his nervousness as he smoothed his robes down and walked over to her. "I was hoping you would come by."

Molly smiled back as he walked over. "I'm doing something with Katara after class today so I thought I'd come visit you now."

"The library closes early today, so I would have missed you if you hadn't." He shifted from one foot to the other, and bit his lip, looking nervous now. "There is something I must ask you."

The nervousness made Molly very curious. "What is it?" she asked.

He pulled the tickets out of his pocket and held them out shyly. "Would you like to go? With me, I mean?"

Not exactly smooth, but he'd never actually asked someone to a dance before.

Molly grinned and reached for the hand holding the tickets. "Of course I'd like to go with you," she said. "I didn't think you'd want to go though. There'll be dancing, you know."

He couldn't quite keep the pained expression off his face. "I know. But it seemed as if it was important, and Seely helped Gavin and I find suits, and I thought you would want to go." He smiled. "Perhaps we could not dance too much?"

Molly giggled at the look on Karal's face.

She stood up on tiptoe and gave him a kiss on the cheek. "I would love to go and not dance with you," she said. "Just please tell me you didn't let Seely pick out your suit."

"No, it is all right! He was actually helpful this time," he assured her. "It is a bit different than most of the ones we saw, but I hope you like it." He scuffed his toe on the ground as he said, "We can dance at least once, if you like. I watched Seely and Gavin and I think I could mimic it."

"Do you want to practice now?" she asked.

Karal glanced around the library uncertainly. "Here? But there is no music...oh!" He trotted over to the desk and returned with the compact disc he'd made. "This is for you."

"What is it?" she asked with a grin.

"It is the mix tape assignment from last week's class. There is a piece of paper inside (http://vkandis-son.livejournal.com/31955.html) with the names of the songs." He offered it to her. "I even found some music that sounds like what we have in Karse!"

Molly took the disc and beamed at him. "You really made it for me?" she asked.

"I did." He blushed a little. "I am not certain it is quite in the spirit of what Professor Stinson wanted, but I do not care. I wanted to choose these songs for you, and so I did."

And no need to mention any chair eating incidents which might have accompanied it.

She stretched up again to give him another kiss. This time, however, it was a soft kiss on the lips.

"You really are the best boyfriend ever," she said quietly.

Karal shook his head quickly, and rested one hand on her shoulder and kissed her in return. "No, I just," he hesitated, then finished quietly, "I like to make you happy. That is all."

"You make me very happy," she said, really wishing they weren't in the library right now.

His smile was wide and warm as he slipped his arms around Molly's shoulders and stepped in to hug her. Oddly enough, he, too, was wishing they weren't in the library.

Molly hugged him back, sliding her arms around his waist.

"Y'know, if there was music playing right now, we'd almost be dancing," she said.

He laughed. "You are right, we could be," he said. "Though the few courtly dances I know are not done quite so close together."

"Yeah. It really isn't done a whole lot here either. Except for during slow songs with the person you're dating."

Karal considered that for a moment, then leaned back so he could see her face "I am the person you're dating," he pointed out. "And were we this close, you could keep me from making too many mistakes."

Molly grinned up at him. "I could," she agreed. "Plus, when you dance this close, you don't actually move a lot. You just kind of sway more than anything."

Swaying. He could probably manage swaying. "If everyone else is dancing like this, we will not stand out." Karal brushed the backs of his fingers across her cheek. "And this is very pleasant."

Molly flushed and wished again that they weren't in the library.

"It is," she said.

"Have you anywhere else you must be before class?" he asked, moving back a little more as he let his hand fall. Normally he adored libraries. Today, not so much. "If not, you could stay here with me, and we could go together."

She shook her head. "I don't have anything to do before class," she said. "I was planning on asking you if I could hang out here until then. If I won't get in your way."

"You won't. I would like you to stay. I do have to finish shelving some books, but you could sit at the desk," he reached for her hand, "perhaps use the computer to listen to the music I found for you?"

She gave him her hand. "I'd like that," she said.

He wrapped his fingers around hers and led her to the desk, which he cleared off first, then set up the computer - just because he didn't like them, didn't mean he couldn't use them. "There. Now, you can listen, I will work, and then we can go to class, where I will hand in the other copy to Professor Stinson," Karal kissed the tip of her nose, "and we will learn what new horrors he has planned!"

"I'm sure they will be awful," Molly giggled and put on a headset.

When Karal headed back to his shelving, Molly started the music and began puttering around on the computer. Well, she really spent more time watching Karal than anything else, but she had her hand on the mouse and was prepared to act busy if Karal looked her way.

Reality is, he isn't here, but the library is pretty easy to use, even in his absence.

Just no self-checkouts!

Karal's back from class and sitting at the desk, wondering exactly what a 'dunk tank' is, seeing as he seemed to have volunteered to help with one at today's carnival.

He could have looked it up, but right now he was embracing an ignorance is bliss frame of mind.

Library closes early today for Homecoming, wheeeee!
