Modern Feminism: From Susan B Anthony to Bea Arthur - Second Period - 10/03

Deadpool sat perched on his desk when the students arrived. And for some unknown reason, was beginning to feel like Wolverine when it came to other classes.

Hey, maybe they'd ask him to join the teacher version of the Avengers next! He'd say no, of course, being on that team means you automatically have to die the next time Wanda Maximoff goes nutso. No thanks on that.

"Morning kiddies!" Yes he was still in a good mood. It's surprising how much smackin' someone around can improve that. "Today we're doing something a liiiiiittle bit different. We've had a few classes now, and I've shown you pretty good examples of feminism in the past and present-" (Especially the pole dancing) "-now it's your turn. I want you to break into groups of an indeterminate number to come up with what you all think a good role model for the young women out there should be. Is it Tyra Banks? Wendy the Werewolf Stalker? Those adorable Olsen twins before they went to rehab and had eating disorders? It's aaaaalllll up to you kids to tell me."

Beauty looked around for some other students to form a group with, and tried to think of some good female role-models to suggest. Maybe Elizabeth I...

Evie had beer leftover from this weekend. And look, here was the ex-Councilor to the Emperor here.

She plunked the two cases of Harp down on his desk, and gave Deadpool an expectant look. "You don't really know any Emperors, do you?"

Sure! I vote we declare it Friday.

If it's on the internet, it must be true, right?

"Hello, Katara," Beauty replied, smiling back. "I'm Beauty. It's nice to meet you."

"Nice to meet you too," she said. Katara tilted her head. "Really? Your parents named you Beauty? That seems harsh. What if you weren't?"

Laughing a little, Beauty shook her head. "No, my mother actually named me Honour. Which I think might be easier to live up to, but 'Beauty' is what happens when a doting father lets his very small daughter pick her own name because she doesn't like the one she's got. I like Katara, though. It's got a pretty rhythm to it."

Katara grinned delightedly. "If my father had let me do that, I probably would have decided I wanted to be named penguinseal. So it could have been worse! And thank you. I think my mom named me that too. My brother used to make fun of it, but it's not that bad."

Turtle is doing her usual checking of the notes before worrying about spotting anyone for grouping up, as she wants to make sure she's very prepared should a debate spark.

"I think my father thought it was precocious. It's cute when a five-year-old thinks she ought to be called something like Beauty. I'm not sure he'd have gone along with 'penguinseal'," Beauty laughed. "What's your brother's name? I haven't got any, only sisters."

"He's Sokka," she said. "He's really loud usually and has a ponytail on top of his head only he calls it a warrior's wolf tail." Katara paused. "And no, I have no idea why."

"Maybe he's read too many adventure tales," Beauty suggested. She had certainly been known to act under the influence of romantic notions brought about by her reading material.

"Do you have any ideas for the discussion topic? I'll warn you that all of my women role models will be pretty historical."
