Prophecy in Theory and Practice, Class Five, Tuesday (10/02)

It wouldn't have been Aziraphale's class if there were no breakfast pastries and pots of tea and coffee on the table in the center of the room. Since it was Aziraphale's class, those items were conveniently available for the students to enjoy.

The teacher himself had just finished setting up a display of scrying implements, and turned to the class once everyone was seated.

"As you can see, today's exercise will be in chrystallomancy, or crystal gazing. Before we begin the exercise, however, I want to give you a brief lecture on dream interpretation. You may think it odd that the lecture would focus on dreams while the exercise covers scrying, but really the two are very similar. The same sorts of symbolism you're going to encounter in your dreams is also very often present in chrystallomancy as well."

Aziraphale proceeded to give his lecture on dream interpretation, and gave each student several different handouts and a blank journal.

"Your homework for is to keep a dream journal for the next week. One of your handouts has some good pointers on methods for keeping them. When you come to the next class, I'd like you to bring a written interpretation of one of the dreams from your journal. Now, we'll move on to today's class exercise."

He gave a short talk on the basics of chrystallomancy, and then said, "Now, pair up and choose a crystal or scrying mirror to work with, and do a reading for your partner. Also, please don't forget to turn in your homework assignment from last week."

Andrew sat down at a crystal ball, tapped it a few times, and pressed his ear against it.

It's totally possible he needs to review his notes.

Neil chuckled as he came over towards Andrew.

"I don't think it works that way," he suggested. Not that he was an expert or anything.

Andrew repeated his action, tapping the crystal ball and pressing his ear against it.

"I read this paper online about mystical resonance and its applications in prophecy," Andrew explained. "But I'm starting to think the premise is a bit off." He took his ear off the ball and frowned.

"You have the greater experience," Neil agreed, especially since he had never really been 'on-line' except the few times Andrew had shown him how to surf the web.

"I grew up with the more classic 'gaze into my crystal ball' method."

Andrew laughed and looked up at Neil. There was a familiar flutter in his chest at the site of him.

"Well the old ways are usually the best ways for this kind of thing."

Neil smiled and settled down next to Andrew, looking towards the crystal ball in his hands.

"So, would you like to try the old fashion way?" He asked, aware of the double meaning in words. Since they were taking things in the old fashion way, nice and slow and careful.

"You bet," Andrew said, gazing intently into the ball.

"Hmm, what's this I see? It looks like a school function. A dance, mayhap." He leaned in closer. "Yes, I see it now. It's Homecoming. I see myself, and I'm dancing, but who is that handsome devil I'm dancing with?"

Andrew cut a glance over towards Neil, a sly grin on his face.

"Really?" Neil said, a slow smile starting to spread over his face. Peeking towards the ball, as if he could see this vision as well, he asked. "Do you think he'd mind if I cut in a couple of times?"

Andrew laughed and made to punch Neil's arm playfully. "He might. Seems to me he keeps getting taller and more muscular as the vision becomes more clear."

Neil began to look a little confused -because he was teenage boy and thus could be stupid at times- as Andrew continued and he started to wonder if maybe Andrew was planning to ask someone like Shep.

Because muscular soooo wasn't a description used for Neil Perry. Wirey was more like it.

"Um, well ... just so long as I get a dance or two," he said with a weak smile.

Andrew noticed Neil's expression and felt really bad. "Oh, no, no, no. I'm just joking. I want you," he said. He tried to hug the other boy.

Hugs were always good ... so long as they came from Andrew and Neil was quick to return the embrace.

"Oh! Oh, good. I mean, if you wanted to go with someone else ... but I totally only want to go if you're going and if we're going and ..."

Smooth, Neil was not.

Andrew was confused as to why Neil would even think he would want to go with anyone else. It worried him.

"If you don't wanna go, we don't have to go. I just thought it sounded like fun. We could do something else if you'd like. Catch a movie or something. We could just hang out in your room... or something. It's just a silly dance."

"No!" Neil said quickly, grinning. "We totally get to go to the dance." He said firmly because he definitely wasn't going to cause Andrew to miss out on all the fun and excitement of Homecoming weekend!

Besides, it would be wonderful to dress up and get to dance with Andrew and Neil wasn't about to give up that oppertunity for the world!

Andrew was very relieved, and in a much more official and unwaivering voice asked, "So, Mr. Neil Perry, may I have the honor and the privilege of escorting you or, um, being escorted by you, or whichever, to this years Fandom High Homecoming dance?"

Because you had ask officially.

Drawing himself up all polite like, Neil smiled and said in a serious tone.

"Mr. Andrew Wells, I would be honored to go with you to this year's Fandom High Homecoming dance."

The grin grew, slowly and then he gave a little bounce!

Andrew smiled back at Neil and said, "Great!"

He turned towards the crystal ball, intent on actually trying the assignment, and it hit him: he was going to his first official dance with a boy he was absolutely crazy about. His chest tightened up and for a moment he couldn't breath.

Silly anxiety attack.
